Had another epic with Barcelona, this time in the Quarters.
Was disappointed with a 2-2 at home in the first leg but Welbeck did score a last minute goal then.
And he did it again in the 2nd leg.
Thrilled with the win since I had some injuries and suspensions, so didnt expect to go to the semis.

What a beauty

I never, ever score goals of any fancy standards. Pretty much every goal my team has ever scored is in the box, no matter what team or players

Season over, league table clicky clicky. A good and a bad year. Getting destroyed by Real Madrid in the CL playoffs 8-3 on aggregate was not the best start and the hangover seemed to continue as we hung around the bottom half of the table until December. Managed to put together a good series of performances which culminated in a Carling Cup win :D Clicky clicky and an FA Cup final, but the league position means pretty much everyone is concerned and this could be the end of this Droylsden team. It's going to be tough. :(

Another crazy game, this time I won the FA Cup with 9 players on the pitch.
De Gae  saving 2 penalties!!
Vidic getting sent off just before I was going to take him off, had to reshuffle and use all my subs before Smalling came off injured.
Thank god it was only West Brom in the final.

Dutch Second Division won :datass:

Got to the semi-final of the cup, but no repeat of last season's heroics.

The board gave me another £1.3 million to spend mid-season, and to be honest I didn't really need to spend it, but I wanted to ensure promotion so made 3 rather expensive signings, defender, midfielder and striker.

Combine these with the majority of my squad having rather large top division promotion wage increase clauses, and I'm already over my wage cap by 10k, with 750k in transfer funds that I'll be converting to wage budget.

From our cup runs in the last 2 seasons, I don't think the step up is a huge one, and confident this current squad can avoid relegation at the very least. Personally I'm just hoping for a good season that will give me a chance at landing the job at one of the bigger teams. I want to achieve a lot in this save, so the preferred option would be jumping ship to a team with title ambitions with a season or two, rather than spending years slowly turning Den Bosch into such a team.

strawberry floating chairman. I hate this guy.

The last five seasons I've brought in more in the summer in terms of transfer funds than I've spent, I'm operating with a wage budget that's comparable to teams who are always predicted to be battling relegation, I have a fanbase that doesn't care with Preston in League Two having more season ticket holders than me, despite all that, he goes and sells my best young centreback to Inter for 6m when he's worth 3.2m.

What a dick.

Oh strawberry float this game, seriously.

First I went out and signed a replacement for my young CB at which point his move to Inter breaks through, so now I have too many CB's and have to desperately palm him off on loan. And now he's accepted a 24m bid for my best midfielder selling him to my CL rivals Arsenal. I've got something like 40m in transfer funds, if we're that desperate for cash take it out of there you asshole.

You may recall that I gained promotion with Hereford in my first season, finishing runners up to Swindon. Well, after my second season, my team finally know what it's like to win a league. 8-)

Image
As I previously mentioned, it was a slow start to the season. Things began to take off a little after bolstering the defence and midfield, and soon enough we found ourselves in the playoff spots. Fast forward to January and we had moved up to second, only behind Tranmere, the team who defeated us on the first day of the season. I think our strategy and formation became a little less effective toward the end as we struggled in a number of games due to a lack of creativity, so I tinkered with it and after a couple of games we started playing well again. Thankfully the teams around us also seemed to go through dodgy periods but weren't able to recover as quickly which we took full advantage of, and at the end it looked far more comfortable than it was. We only topped the table for the first time with just seven games to go.

Onto the individual accolades then. Martin Reilly cemented his place in the team when he came back into form at the end of last season, and thankfully for me he was able to carry that form through the entire season this time. 11 MOTM awards!

Image
Image
As for the rest of the squad, Omar Koroma wasn't able to repeat his incredible goals to games ratio from last season, but he did bag a respectable 21 goals in 41 appearances. Daniel Redmond provided an incredible 27 assists, Christian Montano, Davide Petrucci and Rhys Bennett all proved their worth and were essential to helping us get to the top. We also managed to score in every single game which I was most pleased with. I do have two queries however.

Despite having by far the highest average rating in the league, Martin Reilly did not receive the Player of the Year award. Instead it went to a player from Swindon, a team who didn't even make the playoffs, who had a 7.2 average rating. Why? :?

Image
And also, this somehow did not win Goal of the Month/Season:

:x

But all in all, there's a lot of positives to be taken from this season. There's still some building work to be done, specifically in the midfield as we are often being outplayed there, though fortunately our defence was solid enough to keep most of the attacks out, and whilst we may not have created many goalscoring opportunities, the ones we do create are great and consequently we score relatively often.

Blatantly a mishit cross.

Also, in addition to copying Liverpool by winning the League Cup, losing in the final of the FA Cup and finishing midtable, I've taken it one step further in the following season. In 13 competitive games so far, my team has managed to hit the woodwork 22 times. :fp:

My first signing for Byth in the BSN. Scored a bagful in that league and the BSP, but when I left for League 2 Notts County, I had to leave him behind. I still check back on their progress and Koroma is always top scorer.

He was dynamite for me in League 2! Who did you get in to replace him?

This may sound a little sad, but I was bored yesterday afternoon, so I sat down at my desk and booted up FM. I wrote down what I felt my best 11 for the most recent season was and the best back up for each position, before singling out players that were either:

- out of contract at the end of the season who I wanted to sell
- out of contact and retiring
- out of contract that I wanted to offer a new contract to
- probably not good enough for the jump up to the Championship and would need replacing

I made a decent start on that and have signed a couple of players. I also noted down when certain members of staff would be out of contract or retiring and signed replacements, and I managed to finalise my staff for the season relatively quickly. Now I feel ready for the new season already, and it's only mid-June with lots of time left for signing players. I also got a huge budget increase as you'd expect with going from L1 to the Championship, though I'm still trying to minimise costs.

Sadly I came to the conclusion that 12/13 star player Martin Reilly will probably not be good enough for the Championship, and will have to settle for a place on the bench. :(

Pre-season before heading into the Championship then.

After breaking things down, I decided that I needed to sign another central defender, a new right back, another central midfielder and a striker, having already signed a new goalkeeper and two wingers (one mainly for his potential). I have found it pretty difficult to come buy any decent players in these positions through the free transfer market, so I hired an extra scout and sent him off around Europe, though his travels have so far proved fruitless. I then tried to sign a couple of players from South America which was promptly shut down due to work permits not being granted. :fp:

So I started to look on the continent, and found a couple of decent players in one of the lower French leagues, which filled all three roles, as the defender can play either DC or DR. I also had a little success in Italy after scouring the lower leagues and found a much better winger than the first one I signed, and after a short trip to Portugal I found a decent, if somewhat weak, striker.

Edit: Days before the start of the season and I was offered this guy:

First game of the season was a pretty daunting away fixture to Sheff Utd. After playing an extremely defensive 4-1-4-1 for the first half, making good use of my new DM, I switched it up to a 4-4-2, sticking the DM in centre midfield, and putting star player Davide Petrucci up front. He went on to score both goals in a rather unexpected 2-0 win.

Right then, new season is here, back to FM I go. Still playing my Peterhead game, up to the Scottish 1st Division now but finding it much more difficult given that for all intents and purposes I have the core of the side that got me out of the 3rd Division with a few notable additions. Doesn't stop the ocassional CUPSET though, even if it did break my real-life heart just a little bit:

Image

Other than that there isn't a great deal to report - sitting in 9th place in the league (out of 10), but capable of shooting into the top half if I could only go on a run of a couple of wins as the league is still quite tight (I'm at the start of November).

If it's any consolation they bounced back first time as champions, smashing the league with a GD of +50.

Just realised I haven't posted an update in nearly two months. Time to rectify that error.

Hero of the season, the striking superstar that is Malcolm Danby. Only started 40 of his games up front too, which makes his goalscoring record last season even more  worthy.

How to troll your manager, opposition fans and your own in two legs.

I ended up winning the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup but sadly fell short in the Premier League. 69 games played in all probably didn't help, especially considering I finished the season with five or so injuries to my first team squad. Here's the league table.
