Is anyone else finding the new map a bit ... bland and flat? The Chapter 2 map seemed to have a lot of variety - altitude variations, easily identifiable areas (power station, lighthouse, towns) and a few different ecosystems (forest, beach etc.). I've been all across the map now, and it just seems to be a bit samey. It has a desert area, some tropical islands and ... that's about it? Anyone else feel the same way?

I've not been finding the map too flat myself, although points of interest certainly don't seem as apparent - especially not on the map...of the map. But otherwise I'm compelled as ever to see how it evolves over time.

Played a few rounds of squads (with randoms :dread: ) earlier and christ...barely any of those matches brought us all within the same proximity. At best, two of us land together whilst the others are getting strawberry floated miles away from anyone.

In my experience 9 out of 10 times squads and trios is half the team bugger off to the most populated area of the map (in this case, Spider-Land - previously Pleasant Parks) while the other two actually decide on where to land with a bit of cooperation. By the time the sensible ones have landed the other two are already dead.

Generally once I’ve got my squad / trio win for the season I’ll just plop myself back in solos.

Do you get a different umbrella for getting a squad win then?

I don't understand why Fortnite doesn't have a jump master style system.

My experience is similar, people never stick together

I think it depends who you play with. Ive been playing weekly with my friends for the last 2 years and we've developed into certain roles. One of us is much better with sniper weapons so he works as a spotter. I'm the designated driver and have turned running people over into an artform. One of plays stag and goes on ahead (this doesn't always work out) and one of us is just a better player and does the most damage. One is us isn't that great but is quite lucky and has gotten us out of some scrapes on the past. If all 5 of us are playing we rotate.

Some games it doesn't always work but if we stick together and all goes well we can be a well oiled machine.

Sure but I can play Apex with randoms and stick together vthe entire match because the ping and drop systems are so robust

Same umbrella for a season win regardless of mode, unfortunately.

I do like to play squads on occasion once I’ve got that win though. I don’t have any friends who play though :( So it’s very hit of miss with randoms.

Most times I’ll be last alive (by being sensible, mainly), make it to the top 10 by being sneaky, and then get annihilated by a full team.

If you get a team who can stay together and co-operate then that is half the battle.

I feel more or less the same, not exactly flat (there are some good altitude changes) but it feels less like a cohesive map and more like just an assortment of locations plonked down at random. I think the key is that the named locations of a map are less important overall than the landscape that interlinks them; chapter 2 had a great layout in terms of its landscape and minor landmarks that made things feel a lot more connected and varied. That said, the named locations themselves also did a better job of differentiating themselves - Weeping Woods, Slurpy Swamp, Coral Castle etc. all had a different vibe than just being a collection of buildings in different layouts.

So it looks as though the snow is here to stay then.

I have a separate question for you guys though. I play on the Xbox, and a couple of weeks ago I disabled cross-play at a system level as a workaround for Halo Infinite not having separate PC/Xbox matchmaking pools. Coincidentally, ever since then I'd been playing solos in Fortnite. However, I tried to join a squads game yesterday and a warning appeared on the screen saying I'd have to enable crossplay to continue.

What I can't figure out is why crossplay being disabled is fine for solos, but not anything involving a team. Are there any workarounds for this as far as you guys know? Except re-enabling crossplay that is, because that won't happen until Halo gets sorted.

The snow is melting away. It's melted enough for tilted towers to return. I have no idea about the crossplay sorry.

Just a heads up, if you buy anything in the game from now until the end of the month 100% of the proceeds go to helping people in need in Ukraine.

They've already raised $36 million

I think only if you buy from Epic or Microsoft. And only purchases in real money, not vbucks (although if you buy the vbucks themselves in this period with real money it counts).

I think EGS and Xbox codes also count from the likes of cdkeys etc.

It says all proceeds. So any money epic receive from Fortnite, battle pass etc

Takes seconds to pop in to the menu and change it back, I do it between Halo and disable it for Rocket League all the time.

Also, I'd get back into this if they made no-build a permanent playlist as I can't enjoy someone building a hotel every time I shoot someone.

I'd love to see No Builds become a permanent fixture, maybe have it rotate between solos/duos/trios/squads every week or something and have it as an extra option alongside the regular modes. I've been having a lot of fun with it so far, it really changes how you approach traversal and fights. I also think I'm a better player with builds turned off - I've already won two solos games this season (in a row, so I got a crowned victory for the second!) which is a big jump from my usual performance :toot:

That said, I'm not sure if they reset matchmaking at the start of the season so it could just be that I'm facing less experienced players than normal :shifty:

You play bots in the early games that gradually get phased out the more games you play, and they get reintroduced throughout the season when you have a period of losing games early.

Zero Build mode is a pure test of weapon, item, and traversal ability. Zero Build can be found in the Discover page as Solo, Duos, Trios, and Squads playlists. (Access the Discover page by clicking on the "CHANGE" button above "PLAY!" in the Lobby.)

Without building, all players have the recharging Overshield as your first line of defense in Zero Build. Zip up Ascenders to access Blimps or use Mantling to get the high-ground over your opponents. Don't forget to Sprint between cover on your way to a Victory Royale!

Amazing! Well, as a tactical player - but gooseberry fool builder - that's my interest piqued. I thought I was done with it, but they've sucked me back in. Shame about the recharging over-shield, but I guess we can't have everything!
