Fortnite does save replays, won't save your voice obviously but you'll be able to show people the win

Fortnite is evolving into a full game development platform.

PushSquare wrote:Those who’ve been keeping a keen eye on Battle Royale sensation Fortnite will know that it is, in effect, the true metaverse. Epic Games has been quietly pushing the game’s creative suite for quite some time, but now, powered by Unreal Engine 5, the scope of what users will be able to make is being transformed. If you don’t believe us, just watch this space – you’re going to see some insane things over the coming weeks.

In fact, it’s already happening. Alongside the rollout of the Unreal Editor for Fortnite – which is what the developer’s unambitiously naming the toolset – it’s created some tech demos, including an Elden Ring-esque fantasy combat experience called Forest Guardian and a decidedly sinister puzzler named The Space Inside. There’s also a Call of Duty-inspired 16-player competitive multiplayer game named Deserted: Domination, which instils memories of Modern Warfare 2 map, Rust.

PushSquare wrote:The goal, ultimately, is to transition Fortnite from game to bonafide platform. And in order to expedite the process, Epic Games is also transforming its business model, promising creators a 40 per cent share of the entire release’s revenue. The company says that payouts will be based on “what players enjoy in Fortnite and account for things like island popularity, engagement, and attracting new players”. In other words, the Battle Royale is just the beginning: Fortnite is about to become whatever you want it to be.

So, big new update today completely ruins customisation

I have 70 different presents stored (previously with emotes and weapon skins)

But for some reason they've decided to separate them. So now my 70 presets all have the same emotes and weapon skins. Most of which don't match.

Just makes me not want to bother playing since all the rewards are cosmetic.

Oh and apparently they made movement slower as well. Probably to appeal to casuals more with their push to make Fortnite like Roblox.

I can see why they made the locker separations: its just incredibly annoying they did. My money is on this getting a patch soon because of community backlash.

I thought it was just me that noticed the slower movement! The camera seems closer to the back of characters as well. I'm getting old so the slower gameplay doesn't bother me but I can also see how it will also get patched out in the coming weeks!

It's, from what I've played, basically a Minecraft mode.

I like the new battle royale map. Lego is okay, but it's not really my thing. Hate the broken customization, but apparently that may be being patched out soon.

Looking forward to trying the rocket racing mode tomorrow.

Yeah... Lego construction doesn't really work if the camera has to stay at ground level while doing it. And it also feels awkward trying to build anything. A fun distraction from the main battle royale mode, but I'm not sure it has the staying power to keep me returning to it. Gives me a feeling that Rocket Racing will also not have much staying power.

It really frustrates me that these essentially new games are accessed inside Fortnite. I have a console, it has a launcher, just let me download the games I want to play. Instead I have to download games I don't want to play, taking up limited disk space, and then jump through a second launcher for no good reason. It puts me off trying these games at all.

Race without limits. There's no right or wrong way to race as long as you're headed to the top! In this all new competitive racing experience, you'll be one of 12 total racers on a track where dodging obstacles, timing your boosts, and using flips, flying, and drifts will be the difference between being left behind and claiming victory.

Rocket Racing launches with a number of tracks with different challenges in each environment. In addition, this experience hits the starting line with a lineup of cars available for purchase in the Shop. Some of those include Rocket League classics like: Jager, and Cyclone and an introduction to Diesel.

In Rocket Racing Season Zero, put your skills to the test in 26 tracks. Avoid towering obstacles, take shortcuts, and flip onto walls to blast past your competition. This is just the start of the race with new modes, tracks, and more in 2024!

Take your favorite Rocket League cars on new adventures! All players have a Locker in Fortnite, and in the “Cars” section you can equip a car to use in Rocket Racing.

Rocket Racing is now available to play in Fortnite.

Been doing pretty well in the racing today, thought I'd be awful but I've won quite a few races, getting to Silver 2 rank. Quite enjoying the flight mechanics, makes for some interesting races, on top of the standard MK style drift mechanics.

It’s time to take your stage.

Play in a band with friends or perform solo on stage with hit music by your favorite artists in Fortnite Festival!

On the Main Stage, play a featured rotation of Jam Tracks. Compete against friends for the best performance or team up to climb the leaderboards. Explore the Festival Jam Stage to find friends and mix hit music together using the Jam Tracks in your locker.

The festival is just beginning with more Jam Tracks, Music Icons, concerts, and stages coming soon. Take your stage in Fortnite Festival!

Fortnite Festival is now available to play in Fortnite.

I'm kind of astounded that there's basically Rockband, Minecraft and An amazing arcade racer all in Fortnite and launching within a few days of each other

What an insane platform Fortnite is

Kinda confused. They're just a mode inside Fortnite and are made using Fornite's UE5 creative tools (which keeps the file size down I assume)

It's no more work to play them than it is to choose a mode in Mario Kart.

It's more like if Mario Kart was itself a mode inside Smash Bros.

I'm sure there are some file size savings when packaged together but obviously the combination is bigger than if any one of the games was available standalone.

I'm not very abreast of Fortnite stuff but I'm presuming these are games that might not otherwise have existed except for Fortnite collab/part-funding? (a la Bayonetta 2/3 with Nintendo)

And it's probably not as bad as e.g. loading up Dreams to try something?

And they'll likely tempt people into the (apparently, increasingly generous and worthwhile) Fortnite ecosystem as intended (e.g. I've downloaded Fortnite for first time)?

And they're free I'm guessing, which is Because They're On Fortnite?

Might be wrong on some of the above! But though there might be some added friction in accessing it seems to me like it's still a player-positive/generally cool thing happening here?

I suspect that a part of Fortnite's "platform" idea is to grow it so that the install space required is increasingly hefty and, once players can play several different titles through it, they'll keep it on their system at the expense of other, non-Fortnite games. It's a clever (sneaky) way of keeping the focus on certain things and not others. Delete Fortnite? But then I won't have access to these six games!
