PostRe: Fortnite Battle Royale - Season 10 underway.

Fortnite's next season will rebrand the game as Fortnite: Chapter 2, a new leak suggests. And, as expected, the game will be set across a shiny new map.

This is all based on a leaked piece of artwork visible on the Italian version of the iOS App Store, reported by numerous fans on Twitter and Reddit. The image is our first glimpse at the game's new look.

Image

"Capitolo" is Italian for "chapter".

The artwork shows three of Fortnite's default characters in fresh clothing, staring out across a new landscape. There's a river with boats - the game's first aquatic vehicle - and new locations.

But there are also things here which look familiar. The city area to the right of the image looks very Tilted-esque. And the pink patterns on the grass in the middle-ground look a lot like those around the current map's monster skeleton.

Fortnite fans have long been expecting a new map and a previous leak pointed to 13 new named places coming as part of the next season.

So is this a new map? A new island? Or the same island resurfaced/from a different timeline? You'll just have to watch Fortnite's "The End" live event this Sunday. It kicks off at 7pm UK time.

The way this next live event is set up has pointed to things being very different this time around. Live events usually take place a day or two before the actual end of season and, afterwards, play simply continues. Instead, this event is scheduled to directly precede the moment Epic switches its servers off, takes the game down, and patches in the following season's files and Battle Pass.

Wait, have they actually just shut the game down, after people spent all that money buying battle passes, vbucks, and skins?

Absolutely strawberry float freemium games, Jesus Christ.

Unless their new season/chapter literally strips everyone of everything they bought then I don't think so.

I have a feeling they'd have a lot of angry fans if they just reset everyone.

Thanks. I thought from what I saw on twitter that they were shutting down the original and moving on to a sequel in Fortnite 2, which I assumed would be a new separate game. Didn't realise it was just a rebranding for a new season. :fp:

Question.

Are Epic going to pull a FUT and reset everything? Going to have one unhappy little girl if so.

There is absolutely no way everyone doesn't retain every cosmetic they've earned, that would be corporate suicide.

But the seasonal progress will obviously reset and you can sure bet on there being a load of new cosmetics and a new battle pass to buy.

I'm surprised the game has gone down for so long though, that new season bump (and new chapter bump now) must be big enough to offset the drain away any downtime will lead to with players migrating to other battle royale games. I wish we could see that stats, it must be something crazy. I imagine games like Real Royale suddenly have a big increase in players during the downtime.

Having it offline for some time allows for some major server side fixes plus it gains more attention at the same time.

I can't see any Fortnite players come to PUBG but Apex Legends might see an uptick.

Are there any good story recaps for the whole of Chapter 1 then, seasons 1-10

I checked out around S6 I think and saw some cool stuff happen since then but not really followed much of an overarching plot. Would be good to have a full review of what they went for.

A game update is now available (PC 16Gb, PS4 9Gb and iOS 192MB). Oh, and... was that a Breath of the Wild scene there?

I have zero interest in the game itself but the stuff Epic are doing with narrative design and the evolution of the world with this thing is breathtaking. Just on a completely different level to all other online shooters. And what gets me is how risky it all is. The biggest game in the world and they just...turned it off for a few days. Ballsy as strawberry float.

The visuals look to have been given a pretty major upgrade, though it could just be down to much improved lighting - either way, the new map feels a lot more bright and breezy, a real breath of fresh air.

Also a relief is the streamlined arsenal - nothing more adventurous than your standard smgs, assault rifles, shotguns, pistols and grenades for the most part and no legendary variants that I've noticed so far.

Already got my first solo win of the season :toot:
