Yeah, I can't really disagree with you tbh. It's been fun playing so far, I did miss most of chapter 1, played it at the beginning and then on and off until chapter 2 which is where I played from Season 2 onwards consistently.

Tried this after seeing an apex YouTuber play it for a video

It's actually a lot of fun, in a casual way.

Fortnite has some amazing content but the fighting still doesn't hold up to apex.

The guns just feel bad. Having bloom instead of actual recoil control just feels wrong.

You sometimes lose fights because of RNG. No wonder all the good players seem to just use shotguns.

The movement also feels really bad unless you get a vehicle, in apex it's a joy to move around the world, in this it feels sluggish and boring, you just hold forward, though I guess at least they started to steal apex movement mechanics with the sliding

Having said that I really do enjoy all the distractions you have to keep you busy like fishing, shooting animals, doing mini quests etc.

Oh also, the battlepass in this game is so good, it's leagues better than the apex one. The cosmetics all just look amazing.

I keep dropping in and out of this when there are big updates. I agree with Fade there's lot of fun things in here to do, gunplay is fine for me, thing I just cannot get to grips with is the building.

Cannot for the life of me build anything in this with any succession. Then you rock up again player X who manages to build the empire state building in a blink of an eye.

I'm not sure what I think of the new season yet, the map seems a little less interesting than Chapter 2 (although granted I'm probably too used to all the extra stuff that gets added and updated throughout a chapter) and something just feels a little off about all the new weapons. Aside from the MK7 AR and the pistol I don't think I actually like any of them tbh.

Whether it's the guns feeling off or if they've reset matchmaking I also feel like it's suddenly a lot harder than last chapter, I was getting to a point where I was starting to get solo wins much more often by the end of last season and suddenly I feel like I'm getting absolutely destroyed by people left right and centre. I did manage to get a crowned victory royale last night though which was nice hehe

As for new stuff:
- The tent seems like it's a little bit broken, fast free healing to 100 and storing weapons feels like it could get abused easily (although granted I've not really used it much yet)
- Quadcrashers are good fun, glad they're back
- Sliding seems like a good addition, I feel like I'm getting some weird bugs with it randomly activating after a jump though
- The multi-person vaults are a great dynamic, in solos it's quite tense trying to either lure another player close enough to activate one or try to form a truce long enough to open it and hope they don't immediately kill you afterwards (I have not actually managed to get into one yet lmao)

It's not that I think the shooting is bad, it's fine, mid range guns just rely on RNG which I don't like.

I've lost a few fights because someone was slightly too far away and the bullets decided to hit the edge of the bloom circle. In Apex it's more under your control.

Having played some more I'm still not keen on many of the new guns, MK7 is at least fun to use but I can see it getting nerfed pretty quickly given how easily it can absolutely shred someone - feel like it needs either damage or rate of fire dropping down because currently it feels like you get taken from full health and shields to nearly dead before you even have time to react. The sniper I've started to enjoy a little more at least, although I'm getting shafted slightly by muscle memory making me hammer reload after every shot. One thing I am glad for is that they've re-streamlined quests after the absolute faff they made them last season, so at least progression won't be an absolute nightmare this time.

The fall damage in this game is so confusing.

It goes from 0-100 in the space of like 5 meters :

You can open the vaults in Solo by carrying a chicken in with you!

Wow not sure how I managed to double post sorry about that ^^;

You can also open them by downing an NPC and carrying them in front of the door.

Anyone tried the Spider-Man gloves yet? They feel so good. The movement you get is just insane.

I'd love to just disable building and have Spiderman gloves in return

Anyone know what level you'll probably have to be at to unlock the foundation skin? It's the only one I want on the battlepass but I don't really have time to grind

I had my first shot of the new chapter tonight. Since I've only started playing during Chapter 2 in 2020, the brand spanking new map is quite jarring! I used to have my go-to spots for landing, but not anymore :(

Couple of thoughts on the new guns:

- I'm really not a fan of the new assault rifle with iron sights. First assault rifle with that type of sight isn't it? Quite jarring, regardless.
- The rate of fire on the ranger rifle seems a bit low for the damage it deals.
- The auto shotgun seems pretty wimpy and overall a bit meh.
- There is also something off about the sniper rifle. I'm not sure if it's the scope zoom animation or the sensitivity, but it doesn't seem as on-point as it used to

It's definitely a learning curve finding out what's what and what is best for what situation all over again.

Out of interest, does anyone else find the snow areas makes it quite difficult to read both the minimap and map? Your marker arrow is white, as well as the safe zone outer circles and traversal line. All of which completely blends in with the white of the snow :|

I feel like they'll probably end up doing an LTM along these lines at some point in the season, maybe in the Knockout or Shockwave format where it's several shorter rounds. Spiderman The Floor Is Lava could be fun too

It's this season's bonus skin, so going by past seasons you do specific quests to unlock the skin and various related cosmetics rather than grinding to a specific level. XP seems to be handled much better this season anyway so hopefully grinding in general won't be as much of an issue as last season's godawful quest system.

Shotguns I think they've deliberately underpowered to make things easier on new players jumping in for the start of the new chapter. I also think they buffed the ranger AR in the latest patch although I haven't played in a few days so not sure how much difference it's made.
I do agree with the snow - I think it's also making it harder to learn the new map because it makes everything look very samey, feel like they could have maybe built up the snow over a few weeks in the run-up to Christmas instead of having half the map covered in it from the start.

That's a great point - it is much harder to identify areas and see what is where. I do like snow areas in games, but I think it's a bit too much at the minute and it has to be impacting accessibility. I mean my eyesight is fine but I'm having a hard time quickly referencing the map. They should have really changed the player arrow and safe zone markers to a different colour - or at least offered the option to change it.

Still, I maintain Fortnite is one of the most polished games out there at the minute. I've still yet to come across any noticeable bugs (or completely broken weapons) over the couple of years I've been playing. Maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe my judgement has been affected by the numerous bugs always introduced by WoW patches

Spider-gloves are great fun :o

Here's hoping. I haven't played in December/January before so I'm not sure if it's something they've done before, or if it's unique to this map. I also haven't come across any weather events yet, which I believe they had planned on introducing?

Out of interest, how are you guys finding the map on the whole? I haven't found the Pleasant Parks equivalent yet (i.e. the area everyone just mobs at the start). I miss my lighthouse though - that was always my starting point if I just wanted to turtle up and take it slow. Have any of you come across 'boss' NPCs yet who have named weapon drops?

Temporarily snowing-over the map happens most years for Christmas, although usually it ends up happening mid-season rather than at the very start of a chapter. So it should start receding from January I'd imagine, I think I saw Epic say somewhere that over time the receding snow would reveal secrets that were buried underneath (and saw a leak elsewhere saying the secret in question would be a huge dinosaur or something like that).

So I did some research about the building mechanics and found out that you only way to counter someone spam building (holding build so they keep replacing the same wall) is ping dependent

You have to place your wall there with perfect timing so they can't place theirs, but if your ping is too high it just won't work

The only other option is phasing which requires you to build a specific piece that will clip you through their wall when it's destroyed.

The building system is just fundamentally broken in 1 Vs 1 scenarios.

Although not specific to that exact scenario, you should have a look at the channel 'Billy Bicep' on Youtube for general tips and strategy for building. It's pretty informative, although some stuff is PC specific.

As a caveat to that - I'm a rubbish builder. I play it mainly as a stealth shooter with some bog standard defence building

I did. That's where I learned about phasing.

And how I learned how gimped the building system actually is in terms of 1 Vs 1 pvp

It also incredibly unfun to have someone just throw up a wall in your face 5 times in a row because there's no cooldown.

It started putting me up against tryhards after I won a couple of games and then it stopped being fun. So I uninstalled it.

Don't really understand the point of map changes when every fight is exactly the same because of the building. It's just fighting game mind games, instead of shooting fundamentals, which means the actual map terrain barely matters, it's dumb as gooseberry fool.
