Yeah.

What's the Battle Pass all about then and is it worth £10?

Battle Pass allows you to unlock skins, emotes, in game currency and other stuff more readily in the game. It also provides weekly challenges for you to go after, things like kill x number of people in y location. Beaten the challenges levels you up which unlocks the aforementioned skins and emotes etc. A Battle Pass is valid for 1 season (12 weeks), but as you level you will generally earn enough V Bucks (the in game currency) to allow you to buy the next Battle Pass at no extra cost.

The buyable cosmetic gear is well expensive. The two costumes that I saw listed where about eight quid each. I guess this is kind of expected as the core game is free... but I can imagine that fans plough a ton of cash into this. Hence the $100m prize fund, I guess!

The game seems to be very well run by Epic; weekly updates are great and, to be fair, all of the possible purchases are purely for cosmetic purposes rather then to gain gameplay boosts.

Hey, they are talking about Fortnite addiction of This Morning this morning.

I think it's due to the 9-year-old girl who refused to go to the toilet and pissed herself as she was well into a match.

If only parents could do something before it gets to that point like taking their children's consoles away. But that's just literally impossible :(

This sounds pretty fair to me.

What's the general consensus on how they've monetised this? Seems they've struck a good balance?

I have a major problem with that last part. You'll have to play this game an awful lot to be able to afford the next battle pass.

I don't have a problem with the paid stuff because the game is free, it's also the reason why it escapes most criticism.

I think I'll just get to grips with the game itself before I spend any money on it, knowing me it'll be cast aside before too long.

Well that’s just flat out not true.

The dozen or so people I’ve played with have only ever bought one Battle Pass and have played across multiple seasons.

It’s got to be a max 15 hours in one season to earn the next Battle Pass, and if you were deliberately hunting challenges to level up it could definitely be done in less than 10 and I would imagine less than 5.

I'm not sure I'd play it that much.

Also played it last night on my X and got killed after killing a dude myself, no bad thing, was 22nd, but watched the guy who killed me to maybe earn some tips. He spent the entire game jumping...just jumping around....constantly? he got in top 3, if that's a valid tactic then I'm done with this game. Jumpy shotguns is one thing but jumping ALL THE TIME is another.

Loot crates are dumb and outright buying skins is far, far too expensive.

To individually buy skins or emotes it is crazy expensive, at least to my mind (never having bought cosmetic DLC). At present, one emote will cost you £4 and one skin £12. I know it’s all optional but if I were a parent I’d be pissed if my kid were being enticed into spending that much on something with so little value.

The Battle Pass just makes the game more fun, that’s it. I played for around 10-15 hours without it and it was just fine, if I hadn’t have bought it I might have stopped playing by now as it subliminally encourages you to play more, but I’ve put in 30 or so hours since and am glad I bought it. I’ve no intention of spending anymore money in the game.

Photek wrote:I'm not sure I'd play it that much.

That’s besides the point really. A dozen or so hours over 10 weeks is clearly not an awful lot of time.

It's to avoid getting sniped. People have gotten so good with sniper rifles it's instant death to be walking along.

strawberry float knows man. I think it's a bit of a compulsive thing too like players you see constantly changing weapons when they're not fighting.

Yeah that player weapon swapping thing is weird, seen it in a lot of Halo 5 Championship events, makes me think they are high.

Yeah I see this less as "Girl addicted to Fortnite pissed herself" and more as "Parents paid so little attention to their child that she pissed herself".

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I don't know about sniper rifles, but you can skip the pump action on a shotgun by cancelling the animation into weapon changing into another shotgun. In some games the same works with the bolt pull on a sniper rifle.

I usually just run in a random way in every MP FPS to put snipers off with the occasional jump in Fortnite to see over hills.
