Is it so different to 3, In Australia?

I think something like Miami could be quite cool. With the Florida keys. Or go west coast and have San Fran, Vegas. Or go nuts and Greenland. Just means you kiss out in proper city areas, maybe no street races.

There have been some "leaks" showing a map in Japan, which would definitely be a change of environment type and an excuse to go full Initial D weeb

I just hope they don’t just release half the game on game pass and push the other half as dlc. Loving forza horizon 4 and bought 3 for a fiver, which looks amazing, but isn’t at 60fps.

A different location would be nice as well as some changes to freshen it up a little.

Hope they save Japan for the next one if 5 is going to be crossgen.

I'd trust Playground could make it work, no matter where they selected. Mexico and Australia would definitely feel different, though. Same climate doesn't mean same world-feel.

What I'd really like to see is for Playground to open out the play area a bit more. A large and varied map, with a lot more terrain variation than what we've seen before, with some great views to enjoy while driving. Some of what I'm picturing probably couldn't be done without an even larger map than what we'd probably get, but there's a lot of natural beauty in the world, and I'd like to see even more of it. Yeah, it's a racing game, but you don't need to sacrifice that to include such great beauty.

If the map retains the current quality of the series, though, I can't really complain.

4 is pretty good at this, in Scotland. It has some nice variety and the fortune island dlc does what you describe as well.

Exactly what I was thinking of, but obviously on a larger scale. I know map size isn't everything, but some things can only be done with a large size. Such as a road, high on a mountain, overlooking a vast expanse of land as it declines to flat land, with the land starting to incline again further on. On the flat land and rising on the incline is a city. A city that you could go to. You've already been to one, high up here near to the road you drive on. And spotted around the map are various towns. Obviously there'll be a lot of variety to the land.

Lego area is best area.

I got into Horizon 3 more than 4, but I'm not big into racing games in general. Test Drive Unlimited and Drive Club are the 2 most recent racing games I got into... bar Mario Kart.

Yeah; long, boring, helps if they spelt words like "custamization" properly.

Started giving this a proper go now that I've got Game Pass again, it's really enjoyable but so far I've just been pointed around to different events and races all over the place with no real consistency or understanding of what the "bigger picture" is.

Is there any kind of overall ranking or competitions that you're supposed to be doing or is it all just one-off races/events? Do courses get re-used as you go?-Racing round a track once is fine but the real fun comes from replaying and perfecting the route around somewhere which this hasn't really let me do yet!

They haven't had progression in Horizon since the first game unfortunately.

You just complete a race (you don't have to win it), watch your progress bar go up at the end, it'll mark off a gold trophy on the map icon for that race (if you haven't done it before) and then you'll have another 2-3 races of that type added to your map.

Rivals mode is in there but probably needs unlocking and is the most competitive aspect of the game, however whereas previously the game took every race anyone ever did as a ghost, the changing seasons seems to mean that only dedicated rivals runs count. Also it would be nice to be able to filter by specific vehicle to compare yourself to others trying to do a rally course in something ludicrously inappropriate etc. Rather than just of the performance class.

Other than that the series has definitely settled into a games as a service model, lots of meters, progress bars and daily/weekly/monthly challenges and the like with time limited rewards.

Yep. Turn the assists off, turn the difficulty up and enjoy. I loved just blasting around in a car, exploring. See jump, do that, see a race, do that.

Some of the dlc has specific criteria to hit, but that can be a bit dull as it makes you drive in a certain way, e.g. drifting. There are some challenges too, which can be quite tricky but offen require luck and a shortcut. I liked the variety in racing but tended to prefer the dirt series (yellow/amber) or the green ones. Was less interested in the street races.

Once you progress far enough you open special events, they can be quite fun.

It’s a good racer for dipping in and out. But it can be overwhelming.

Fair enough, I guess I was just expecting a bit more focus or structure to emerge at some point but it looks like that isn't going to be the case!

I'm enjoying it well enough so far, it's really nice to look at and the handling model seems great, I just would have liked a bit more core racing meat to get my teeth into

Well, if you want structure, you can't get more structured than with Horizon 2. You might find yourself racing the same events over and over, but if you want to complete it fully... There's a lot of touring to do.

I was thinking, if you want more racing and structure, Forza 7 is on gamepass. Might give you want you want.

I’ve avoided it. I don’t find it does what I need. Horizon is my casual go to racer, for a bit of fun. I’ve got project cars 2/dirt 2.0 and I’m tempted by assetta corsa for the more serious racing.

Yeah I spotted that Forza 7 is available as well, I'm definitely going to check that out and see if it scratches my itch for more structure!

I'm still enjoying this a lot though, it's definitely a nice chilled way to spend some time

I love the horizon series. Having dipped out of Xbox last gen, I love seeing all of the games available on GPU to go with the PC so I can get back up to speed. I would love if they added Halo 5 (I know it’s not great) but I am very excited for Infinite.
