A little disappointed we're already back to having to choose resolution or framerate in what is still a crossgen game. I knew this would likely be how it went once we got to 'proper next gen', but I thought for a game they can run on the original Xbox One, Series X would be able to handle 4K/60.

Raytracing is not so much of a surprise, again knowing this is crossgen. I'm sure it will be there for FH6.

It still looks incredible and according to DF, way above and beyond what last gen was capable of, they reckon the last gen versions will be severely impacted visually.

The mention of kudos makes me hope they're at least trying to make a decent spiritual successor to Project Gotham Racing.

No ray tracing either? Microsoft need to show their hardware advantage. Gt7 is coming out next year and will be 4k/60 with full ray tracing.

Kudos has me excited and think this will be the best game in the series.

Forza motorsport (8) is coming next year with full ray tracing and it's also not cross gen so nothing to 'hold it back' as you like to say.

We shall see, because right now I am doubting any hardware advantage and ps5 is seems to be a lot more capable and is better for developers.

Forget about the visuals and I expect this to be the racer of the year and am genuinely looking forward to playing it. Not overly sure why gpu owners get the cut down version, but thats another story!

That's not a totally fair comparison; GT and Forza Motorsport are closed track racers that have considerably less to load/render on the fly than hundreds of square miles of open road.

Yes, good point. I just expect much more from the series x after the push from good old phil.

Watching this again on the stream, this really does look stunning but I just can’t get interested in it at all, also slightly miffed that Forza Horizon will have had 2 new games since Forza 7

I had to think past all the "meet up with your friends!" stuff, I just want to tinker with cars in a cool location; the actual racing has become almost inconsequential as certainly from H4 just finishing them counted as "completed" outside the rotating live service championship stuff which is where the real emphasis seems to be. If that's going to be more the case then it's a means to an end to get more cash/cars to mess around in rivals mode and maybe make some liveries for (those volcano and desert/jungle off road areas are giving off strong motorstorm vibes...).

This is 100% of the appeal of Forza Horizon for me. Especially making "normal" cars into absolute beasts.

I wouldn't get too caught up with raytracing.

It's a nice to have and can look/be great when implemented properly but it comes with a massive overhead. Sometimes it will make more sense to have "baked in" lighting/reflections if it will prove too resource heavy to implement RT.

Basically, RT is great but not at the expense of overall performance, and just because one game has it doesn't make it superior to another.

I am just hoping the music is better this time round. I didn't like the choices last time round.

I quite like trying to make hillclimb-style cars and making things off-road that shouldn't, all primarily for rivals mode:

But then also just slightly improving some classic cars, normally up to their current (or next) performance group depending on where they are when stock, so slightly better tires, suspension, a bit of weight reduction, limiting myself to enthusiast-level upgrades instead of V8 engine swaps etc.

God I loathe that kind of 'presentation', three annoying hipster/alt wanker(ette)s talking for half an hour with hardly any footage of the game.

It's the well trodden PR pace; big reveal with a smattering of detail, let that simmer for a week or so then add a bit more every 3 weeks or so, gradually increasing in tempo to launch day.

I hate it too but it’s actually kept to a minimum here thankfully…

No surprise it's the most anticipated. It's something everyone can enjoy - even if they don't particularly like racing. And the effort in design that Playground had with 4 means the same should be carried over to this one - and on a larger world size.
