Nope.

There is one this week, though.

Thanks! Got that last achievement during my lunch break today and it actually worked. The lanterns are plentiful around the sand dunes and they even respawn quickly so there’s no need to do weird loading in to races etc to force respawns like previously with snowmen etc!

Ah, I had a quick look around and couldn’t find any, but I didn’t try the dunes. The square in Mulege looks desolate now the decorations have all gone.

They seemed to be all over the sand area between the coast and the left of the volcano, they’re not lit during the day but I guess at night they should be lit up

I have started playing this again. It still annoys me that there is no real progression of any sort, and time is the only attribute that makes a difference, but it is good fun.

Is it just me who finds all the different currencies, map icon filters and symbols and challenge wording confusing though? Like yesterday, I was doing the Jeep weekly and i had to win 3 dirt trial races. For some reason a dirt race that is a circuit does not count towards this, but a point to point race does. Despite their not being 2 different map filters for these eventualities.

Still, it got me some Forza points, skill points, season points, accolade points and experience points. And some credits. So it can't be all bad.

If it helps:

  • Forza points are a special currency. Generally for the weekly (seasonal) shop. You need to complete seasonal objectives to earn these. This is usually a good way of buying expensive cars that you would normally have to hand over a lot of credits. E.g. Bugatti Chiron this week - 700FP in the shop, or ~2 million credits via the auto-show/auction house.
  • Credits are the standard currency for everything else e.g. auction house, auto-show and avatar items. You mainly earn these from PR stunts and races. You can also earn them from wheelspins and from selling cars on the auction house
  • Skill points are used to progress a car's mastery, which can be thought of as an RPG-style skill list for an individual car. This is what you earn while driving in free-roam and in races.
  • Experience points increase your overall player level
  • Attribute points are - as far as I can gather - a way of gating certain content during the campaign. After completing the campaign, it's just a bragging rights total which indicates how much 'stuff' you have completed in game. This point system are the most redundant to me.

Kaza - are you sure the 'circuit' race that you referenced was not classed as a cross race (green icon) instead of a dirt race (orange icon)?

Thanks. I do understand what each of them does, but it took me a while to understand the mechanics between them. The seaonsal points one confused me for the longest - i thought it was indicating i would get 5 forza points, but it was the season points (which i assume only go towards the season and series objectives). Given its winter now I am not going to tick off the series milestones.

And yes, 100% sure. I actually did a cross race afterwards thinking that might be what it was asking of me, but that did not register as the first part of the challenge either. Oh, and the same applies for the last part chapter of the trial (where you DO have to do the green cross race) - the "scramble" routes which are a loop would not count towards progress. It had to be a stage where a percentage ticks up. Very strange.

The dirt races are mixed, as are the others. So the first part of the challenge tells you the type, I.e. colour of the event. Then there is ‘trail’ or ‘circuit’ and there are different types of events within the event type, I.e circuits with laps, or a % progress (trail).

So you do need to make sure you pick the right wording within the wider event type. Not intuitive. But you picked up the counter.

Yep, thats right. It seems amazing a game with so little depth in terms of progression etc would have a wrinkle such as this as to what constitutes a trial, but i suppose it is accurate.

It even mentions the dunes in the description. How the hell did I miss that?!

Progression for me is all about the accolades. I think they’re a great addition.

What do you mean when you say 'so little depth'?

In my mind the game is quite deep for a racing game:

  • A variety of difficulties from easy to unbeatable, giving a feeling or progression whilst also scaling the rewards
  • You open up different areas of the map as you progress in the campaign. Going from one festival site in one particular area, to numerous across different biomes
  • You can choose to use the cars 'as-is' or tune them to the nines which provides increasing levels of depth
  • You progress from relatively inexpensive cars to mightily expensive supercars as you earn more credits
  • Leaderboards for each event type, categorised by class
  • A car collection indicating advancement as you buy/gain/sell cars
  • Accolades if you really want to 'complete everything'
  • Seasonal challenges which keep things fresh
  • Additional modes not necessarily focused on 'pure' racing - i.e. infection, eliminator, capture the flag

But maybe I'm misunderstanding where you are coming from? I'm not the Horizon defence force - I'm just curious.

Sorry, it wasn’t meant as a slight on the game. I just meant that simply playing it, regardless of skill just keeps unlocking stuff. Having to pick a certain race type within the accepted parameters seems to go against the ethos.

How has everyone found this week's Trial? I'm finding it impossible to complete. Finding a reasonably priced car to complete it in is the first challenge. I tried it in a souped-up Ford Lotus, but that was too difficult to consistently control at the required tuning class (S1900). I then tried it in a rental, but the rental is around ~40 points lower than the AI so it was very hard to keep up.

On both occasions the rest of the non-AI players left when we weren't dominating the race after the first 2 laps. I've got the Hilux, so I'll probably leave it for this week. I'd be interested to know how other people got on though?

Found it incredibly easy this week. I had a Lola and pretty much all of blue team were spots 1-4 and then someone further back. The team I was with did it with the 1st 2 races too. Might just be a reflection of the standard?

Get it done 1st on a Thursday.

The last 2 weeks have been easy after a terrible week 1 (foggy?)

Its always better to do the trial as soon as possible close to the thursday when it comes out because all the good players will do it then and not play for the rest of the week.
I think the leaders did tend to use the Lola.

I'm really struggling to get the 45 points this week

I'm OK on the Trial but keep getting teamed up with a load of numpties who keep smashing into other cars on the team.

Was really struggling to do the buggy championship but after lots of different custom upgrade set ups finally managed that today.

Should now have enough credits to but the Bugatti for the other championship.

With the playground games (which I hate) and a few more daily challenges I should just about scrape it.

Just done the trial 1st time again. Easier this week due to tight corners.

I was in a similar position. I scraped together the 45 without completing the trial. Had to resort to taking photos of cars and everything :(

I'm surprised no one is selling their Land Cruisers and Hilux's on the AH to be honest. Or, if they are, they are being snapped up insanely quick. I could list the Land Cruiser with an A700 tune for around 800k.

I'll make sure I do the Trial tonight and then the other activities can wait as they are less reliant on other people. What are the car restrictions this week?

I got to 48 points and then had another go at The Trial as I actually enjoyed that one, did it first time so ended up with 58 points which is most I've got.

Already did the Trial this week and a few other things so already got the 25 points car and nearly got 200 total points.

I didnt realise the trial as a dirt race so struggled, but got carried through it by the others. What car did you use?

I didn't realise either. Had a massive choice of cars. Went for a Ferrari in the end. Came last in the first race!

Did better in the next two but it was definitely others that got us the win - won 1st and 3rd races.

Got into the trial with four people from the same club, so they were suitably clued-up. Won in two rounds.
