Tarmac/dirt/offroad surfaces and slick/semi slick/rally/offroad tyres make an appreciable differnce when on the many transitions between these surfaces. Also some stock tyres appear to be hybrids / better than theses "premium tyre" choices - sometimes.
My BAC S1 semi slick tune is quite good, but its not as good as a slick tune if you stay 100% on tarmac. and its not as good as a raly tune if mainly going on rally tracks. This also seems to be reacted in the suspension set up with alot more variations than FH4. Having said all this - whilst its probably a good physics achievement, its probably to the detriment of fun / playing the game.
I agree with this - especially the part in bold. Although it does make the cars 'feel' more real, it does make it quite annoying when you are charging towards a road/street race in a slick-wheeled sports car, and then the GPS decides that the only way to it is via a random dirt road. Whereas it would have been annoying in FH4, it is far more annoying in FH5 given just how much more responsive tyres are to surfaces. As a result I just end up using my Ford Bronco - for which I've created a good ~A740 tune - for everything that isn't races. Bit annoying given there are some sportier cars in my garage that I wouldn't mind seeing the sights with.
So far my favourite cars are:
- DeBerti Ford F-150 (A735 - cross-country)
- Ford Bronco (A745 - cross-country / general off road / travel)
- #2069 Ford Performance Bronco (A7XX - for ripping round the landscape like a loon)
- 2011 Subaru WRX STI (A7 - rally)
I haven't found a 'Rally Monster' that I get on with yet. My favourite in FH4 was a Honda Civic Coupe GRC, but that isn't in FH5. My favourite prior to finding that Honda that was a Ford Fiesta #14 Rahal Letterman, but it is far too slippy in FH5.
I haven't found many non off-road cars that I've clicked with yet. I have a Porsche 918 Spyder which is very grippy - and fast - that is tuned as a S2. A Ferrari 458 which looks promising as an S1. Also a Lamborghini something which is very grippy, but it is in the same car class as the Porsche 918 Spyder, and since it is slower, it loses out to the Porsche overall. My go-to all around sports car in FH4 was an Audi R8, but it handles nowhere near as well in FH5 (to me at least). Ditto for the BAC Mono on the track side of things. Not quite as drastic as the Audi, but nowhere near as grippy as FH4.
I'm working through the off-road events at the minute (as an aside - man, The Gauntlet was an epic) before moving onto tarmac.
