The latest Forza Horizon 5 update will be available to download on Xbox consoles and Windows PCs though the Microsoft Store and Steam from Tuesday, March 28 – one day before the release of Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure. To begin your expedition in Sierra Nueva, you’ll need to download both the upcoming series update and the expansion once it’s available starting at 7pm BST on Wednesday, March 29. Looking ahead, the Midnights at Horizon series begins in-game on Thursday, March 30.

Verdict

For long-time fans, Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure is a bit of a full-circle moment for this class-leading racing franchise. After all, the first DLC for the original Forza Horizon was a dedicated rally-themed add-on back in 2012. This new iteration on that idea may be a lot more conventional than last year’s outlandish Hot Wheels expansion, but fusing the open-world foundations of Forza Horizon with the arcade accessibility of offroad racing icon Sega Rally is still a winning combination.

Wrapping Things Up

Rally Adventure is grounded expansion. Those aren’t typically my favorite in the Horizon series, but this one is the exception. I’m still not a huge fan of the chatter from the NPCs but every other part of this expansion is top-notch. If you love the base game, this is more of it in a better-than-ever package.

Of all the games on Xbox that aren't on PlayStation, this is the one that I'd most like to try. The Horizon series looks to be exactly the kind of casual-friendly-with-great-graphics racer that I enjoy.

Really enjoying this rally expansion, always forget how STUNNING the game looks. I'm playing with the racing line completely off and just using the commentator to predict turns. I know the haptic triggers on Xbox aren't as expansive as the dual sense but nailing a corner on a dirt road and then feeling the grip catch on the way out is awesome!

Peter Crisp and Phil Spencer are literally 2 seconds ahead of me on my split times, gonna spend this evening trying to reel them in, bet those cheaters used the line!

Im pretty quick on this but remember the drivatars are your friends names and not actual times? I upped the difficulty.

It does look great. It doesn’t feel like a proper expansion. It’s light. The up and down is good, the line off and pace notes are nice. It really needs more proper rally cars. Or a way to choose a rally livery at the car select screen rather than buying a new one and then applying one.. or backing out, applying loads of rally liveries, starting again..

My difficulty is one down from hardest, Expert I think (hardest is pro?). In normal races is makes things neck and neck but it's punishing me in the rally mode but I'm having so much fun I'm looking forward to counter steering around those hairpins shaving mili-seconds off the next split time!

I presume their drivatars are similar to the actual player? I tend to spar a lot with more experienced grcade players in normal races...

Im not sure it has any actual effect. The names are assigned to stock drivatars from the pool for each difficulty. You need leaderboards for actual scores. Im Mad-mR-pickles FYI.

Yeah, I think the whole drivatar training thing was somewhat exaggerated in the past, and they don't even claim to do it now, AFAIK.

EDIT: Or maybe they do. But this states that in FM1 to 4, the drivatar data never even left your hard drive, so we weren't racing against each other's AI back then!

Completed last night. Except for the two online racing accolades, but I'll get to them in time. Simply wonderful for an expansion. Loved the little interactions between the three hosts and the player character. I'd say this is close to how I'd want the progression handled for the next game. Multiple hosts with their own event lists, with new events opening upon reaching the next level with more than just the events to aid in reaching the next level. Doesn't have to be a repeat of this where specific events are tied to a single host, since the next base game map will likely be another big one. Have it just like Horizon 3, where each host is tied to an area of the map.

I can certainly see myself sticking to the area a bit longer before heading back to the base location.

Nice. Thanks. The best bit about this new area is it’s big with some nice vistas but it has lovely valleys and terrain. I think the main map was too flat unless you went to the mountain or dunes and races were on the flat.

Just preference, but I’ve always disliked hot wheels expansions, loved fortune island and the blizzard mountain. This has grown on me. I still feel short changed for the premium bundle, but then think that it’s free on gamepass and I’ve prob puts 150 hours into it a few hours a week at a time…weird one.

Has anyone had a go at the rally adventure rivals yet? I might set some times, but i cant settle on a car/class yet.

EDIT: On the official forza forums they have thier unofficial rivals competition, at the moment its Orgrande - Class A - Rally monsters. They have 3 of the top 10 times in the world at about 2:15.
I was struggling to get a clean time at 2:37 which really disheartened me.
Then i saw my time was 79 in the world.

Then i noticed its only out of 470 players :lol:

The rally DLC is definately better than the hotwheels (although that bar is pretty low).
I think with Lego, Storm island, Avalance etc i took my time to go through them, so they seemed better. The weekly tshirt made be bomb through this one, which is unfortunate. But the rivals are holding me - probably becasue the tracks are good. I like that there are three divisions - tarmac, dirt, and mixed. But i would have liked some circuits.
I had to switch away from the rimac for the rally speed zone this week becasue i was struggling, then it started raining. Got it in the rain with the koenigsegg on my first go though.

Exploring around the new rally DLC - there are alot of offroad areas with great track potential that have no races associated. I wonder if PG didnt have time to put them in? - They could have easily made a 4th and perhaps 5th "off road team". Im really hoping that teams are added to it.

Also If anyone wants to select a time trial challenge or one of the stunt event - we could get some competition going here. I enjoyed the early days of going for Pedz and Lewis speed trap scores.
