It looks like you took enough damage to kill you but it didn't happen

I don't think the Sword swipe got me as I rolled into it. Must have been the sparks floating around.
Pure luck.

As much as I said I wasn't going to play again, I've just done NG7. That's it, as hard as it gets. To be honest, not too tricky. Maliketh phase 2 was pretty tough, as was open play on Faram Azula.
Anyways, the spiral glintstone was great on the Elden Beast.

I thought I'd have a quick spin on Malenia before I started Journey 9.

Needed to respec after 2 hours of getting obliterated.

Level 340.

Finished the game late on Saturday after just over eighty hours (around six of which were spent on Radagon/Elden Beast) and level 114 on an Astrologer build.

This was my first proper FromSoft game (had started Dark Souls Remastered on Switch, but abandoned after Twin Gargoyles). There was a lot of early adjustment, and I felt guilty about how often I was having to Google mechanics, but I understand now that these are very much community games - without any real quest tracking, I suspect it would be near impossible for most people to play through most of the quest lines without Google/YouTube.

The variety of bosses and landscapes was superb. Nearly everything felt rewarding and weighted fairly. There sheer volume of tools available for any build is remarkable. I can see why some of you keep going back. There were a handful of moments where I actually cheered when I got a hard-fought victory with my hodgepodge Magic build. Rarely happens in games for me (Perhaps Cuphead was the last time?).

I think the only major bosses I haven't faced are some of the secret Dragons and Malenia - tempted to go back, but my hands are sore for now.

This popped up on my youtube and I thought it looked amazing and that others here might appreciate it. This guy has sketchbooked his whole Elden Ring playthrough, and it looks super cool!

Oh absolutely!

I'd love to know what it feels like to enjoy and care about something that much, I bet it's great. Instead I just have to live vicariously and watch other people enjoy things, then doubt if even that's real, because how do I know they're not exaggerating their enjoyment of it to generate engagement/viewer retention, and thus ad revenue.

Capitalism has broken my brain, and I want to get off.

Id say sketching a 600 page book sounds real enough to me, I want to believe in this guy's passion

The Maestro of Punishment, Hidetaka Miyazaki, says it's OK to beat FromSoftware games like Elden Ring using guides. In fact, he says his studio has "room for improvement" if players struggle to progress "organically".

Speaking to PC Gamer, Miyazaki is clearly aware of the cottage industry that has sprung up around guiding FromSoftware's games, specifically: "Of course, players are going to consult guides, and there's going to be a wealth of information on the web and in their communities where they have access to the secrets and the strategies. We expect that."

Still, it's interesting to think the developers are fully aware that their releases, like the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree, will be chronicled and detailed in full almost immediately upon launch. Miyazaki continues: "We obviously understand [players use guides], but we don't make or plan anything with that as a prerequisite. If anything, we try to cater to the player who is completely blind and wants to go through organically. If they can't do it, then there's some room for improvement on our behalf, and we'd like to try to embrace those players more in the future."

Miyazaki-san says it is okay to use guides. Perhaps some players need to git gud etc.

Talking about obscure secrets with your friends, or finding out about them in videos or guides (whether published or curated by the online community for the game), is a key part of what makes Souls games an enduring success IMO. There's so much hidden in the games that there's always something new to you to think about, even for the older games.

Challenge runs are cool but I think they've skewed the perception of these games a bit. There's a huge element of like, exploring, puzzling it all out, finding secrets and loot. You can get good(!!!) and play them as super hard action games and that's great, but I never have, they are much closer to JRPGs to me!

Anyone here interested in the game due to hearing about the DLC, but worried about the skill requirement, I'd encourage you to play a sorcerer and think of it like a JRPG. If you get stuck, don't worry, you just don't have high-level enough magic spells yet, so explore somewhere else or do a sidequest and come back later. You'll still need some tenacity but you absolutely won't need lightning reflexes!

I've loaded up my game for the first time in years and have saved in Mohg's room. I don't remember my character's outfit being as ridiculous as it is though.

I like the sound of this approach, site. I am bloody lousy at games when skill and/or speed is needed, but I can be tenacious. Thinking back, I felt that way whilst playing Dark Souls; it was tenacity that got me through it. I hope to continue that way of playing with Elden at a some point.

I agree with Site. I think that anyone who focuses solely on the challenge and combat of From software's games is kind of missing the point.

A game update will be issued on 20 June, just ahead of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion launching on 21 June.

New Summoning Pool features:

> Only active Summoning Pools will be selected when using the Small Golden Effigy.

New hairstyles:

> Five new hairstyles have been added to the game. They can be selected during character creation, using the Clouded Mirror Stand or using Rennala's Rebirth feature.

FromSoftware also confirms that the patch will have "balance adjustments" and boast additional features that aren't mentioned here. Hopefully they're a nice surprise!

agreed.
i think this is also the biggest difference between Elden Ring and the other Souls games, when i first played it i was banging my head against the challenge, instead of just buggering off and finding something more at my level - massively more enjoyable that way!
