I'm going to call bullshit on this for now. Didn't Martin turn down a cameo in the last season of GoT because he wanted to prioritise the book? Can't imagine he'd have picked up a second gig as a writer for a game, if so.

Considering he released Fire and Blood which is a meaty 736 pages just last November I'm beginning to wonder just how dedicated he is to the last 2 books in the series.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if this turns out to be true, as much as fans want him to concentrate on ASOIAF this seems to be the last thing he himself actually wants to do! As ridiculous as it sounds I’m hoping that Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring release within a year or two of each other, highly unlikely though

I just can't see FromSoftware working with George R.R. Martin. Game of Thrones is barely a thing here in Japan - the only people who know what it is are non-Japanese and its blend of violence, sex and cussin' are pretty much the antithesis of any popular J-drama.

The only link I can see is that Dark Souls is sort of western medieval fantasy, but even then, it doesn't feel like a great fit. FromSoftware games are light on exposition, whereas Martin's stuff drowns in it. Seems a bit like wish-fulfillment to me.

Sekiro has shown/is showing this isn't always the case. I'm not saying it's Persona levels of "tell-don't-show" but there's a coherent story told by actual characters this time.

Also, I'd argue that even the Soulsborne games have a common thread with Martin's writing. He's all about the world-building, from the minute to the meta and Souls is absolutely of that jive too. It's just...hidden. Behind weapon descriptions.
