I really enjoyed it, but then I find the “legacy dungeons” to be the best bits. Stormveil, Raya Lucaria, capital, volcano manor all expertly designed. The copy paste tombs not so much.

230hrs into this and it’s been a superb experience

Yeah. Those I love. I even enjoy the wee dungeons. However, Haligtree and the approach to it has the perfect storm of annoying mobs and tedious traversal. Can't wait to see the back of it.

I'm at about 158 hours. (With character level in the low 150s.)

Edit: Could just be that I'm tackling it when I'm tired and so not in the best frame of mind to be playing a level like that...

But there's so many smithing stones to be looted! And the game is now handing out legendary smithing stones like candy on Halloween toffee at bonfire night / fines to Number 10, Downing Street.

But, yeah, on my umpteenth death I said sod it and started running past the rot zombs and those *BASTARD* SNAILS. And twatted the boss of that section on my first attempt :toot: Then put my name down to help someone and got two shotted   Couldn't leave it at that :slol: and so put my name down again and this time I DIDN'T go running in like a Leeroy and we beat her comfortably.

Met up with Millicent again and so I'm glad that's one quest I haven't managed to screw up.

Respecced so I could use the Darkmoon Greatsword properly and I'm pretty happy with it.

Had to drop some of my other stats a fair bit to get the 38 in Intelligence it needed, so I'll be re-building my Vigor, Endurance and Strength back up for a bit. But the hit wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and the drop in strength, which would really cripple the +13 Lordsworn Greatsword I've been using so far, definitely seems to have been mitigated by the DM GSw and I'm doing roughly the same damage as I was before, but with the bonus of the R2 beam attack you get on that sword. It's only going to get better as I put more levels in. Currently sitting around Lvl 72 and dicking around doing assassinations for Tanith (I think that's her name) in Volcano Manor, but I've not got access to the area the next one is in yet.

A nice bonus to respeccing is that I've now got enough Intelligence to make Sorceries a viable alternative. Once I've got my equip load back up high enough that I can wield a staff as well I'll be dipping more into the magic side of things.

It's happened a few times now, where I think I'm running into a wall with this and getting ready to move on, but I find something new to keep my attention.

Love it.

:msgreen: It's great.

What I do is, I rinse an area as much as I can on my own, and then I stick on one of those Things You Probably Missed in X videos to see what hidden away goodies I didn't see, kill or loot.

I tend to go for "What do I want to do/get?" then dig into how I do that.

For example I wanted to get a decent sword. So I dug into the wikis, looked at a few build guides and got a general idea of where I needed to go and what I needed to do to get it.

Despite all this I think I've remained relatively unspoilt for later areas. I know a couple of the things I'll be seeing as I progress the story, but I don't too much. Which is good.

I think I'm ready to push forward with the main questline now. Feels like I've been doing side-stuff ever since I beat Raya Lucaria and that was weeks ago.

haha! Its true in the last stages they literally reward you with ancient smithing stones left right and center, in fact I still did a lot of exploring but for me same as lyndell, I found that having the sites of grace activated and then exploring properly after worked better as a strategy for me, and I felt more free to explore without the fear of having to do a lengthy section all over again.

Got my ass handed to me last night as tried to progress the story. Lost about 15k runes which to me is a lot at the mo. Died I when I met some fire breathing, Charlton And The Wheelies (ask your parents) type character in a castle courtyard by a magic door which requires a Glintstone Key

Was it like a iron maiden on wheels with 2 swinging axes for arms? They're a pain.

Don't think so. At least, all I saw was fire. Lots of fire as it spun round and round like a demented spinning top. Killed my wolf ashes and me very quickly.

Ho hum. Lvl 59 but looks like I need to buff up more

Ah yes, those things can be nasty at first!

Still making slow and steady progress through this myself, it's just such a wonderful thing to experience.

Done with the Capital now, another great sprawling location, I love how much there is to explore - especially underground which seemed to keep going forever!

Unfortunately the joy of exploration has been hampered somewhat by what I can only assume is the fact that I've done stuff out of order, so every hard to find pickup and drop from a tough enemy is now rendered kind of pointless as they're giving me level 5/6 smithing stones or ghost/gloveworts and I've already upgraded most of my gear to way beyond that already. I've been using the same +9 Moonveil and +10 Mimic Tear for about 40 hours now!

Morgott was an absolute walkover, not sure I even got to hear all of his fight dialogue before he went down!

I think it's the one outside the entrance to Raya Lucaria.

It's like a big wooden face on wheels which spits out fire at you and zooms about the place.

Ah! Cheers.

Yeah. They can also be a pain first time around. (Such an unexpected enemy type. I wish there were more similarly surprising enemies.)

Did anyone manage to do the special kill on them?

Looks great, but how often do you get the opportunity to land on it like that  You're in the middle of attempting it, it's spotted you and now you're either on fire or being reversed over or, more likely, both.

Just had the most hilarious death. Haligtree spoilers.

I'm at the 3rd part of the Haligtree, the bit after the first boss where it turns into a more traditional castle/fort level.

I've done a huge chunk of it and now all paths converge on a main one. Y'know it's an ambush but strawberry float it and rush in. So I'm approaching and before I'm done thinking "What's that one soldier off in the semi distance holding around his midriff?" off they (I'd failed to spot the other 3) fire a volley of ballista bolts. The 2nd lot got me cos I'm a slow to react div. I go again. I somehow dodge the incoming fire and make it to where they're manning the ballista and now they're strawberry floated because there's no way they can attack me. HA!! I leap in to that first one I spotted and even before my first attack lands I finally see the giant tree avatar bastard with the mace the size 2 grown men. FUUUUUUUCK.

I somehow managed to get out of Dodge by jumping backwards down the stairs, cast mimic tear and then get greeted by all the banana splits I ran past to get to that path. Got back stabbed by some scrub bc I didn't heal after casting mimic tear.

It was legit great :x

Yep that was the wheelie thing. Managed to get into Raya Lucaria now and just beaten the boss 1st time (just about survived!).
Died at the NPC invader waiting a bit further on though. Luckily I'd levelled up and spent my runes so not lost much

Took about an hour to beat her. Wait until you see how it ends. Bricked 'em.

The Millicent fight was almost as difficult.

Nice!

Yeah that invader got me a few times before I got past him.

Pushed on with my game tonight as well. Dicked about outside the Capital for a bit, visited some stuff in Caelid that I'd not seen and found the second Dectus Medallion that I'd previously missed. Too bad I already found the other route up to Altus Plateau.

Got a few more levels and tweaked my armour a bit so I can now equip my Meteorite Staff as well as my Darkmoon Greatsword. With the high Intelligence stat needed for the Sword I can do decent damage with sorceries as well now. As a bonus it means I can have my Mimic Tear tank for me with the Greatsword while I attack from range with magic. :datass:

So I'm inside the capital now and started fighting weird inflatable trumpet playing things before wrapping up for the night.

All this and I'm only 47hrs into the game. I feel like there's still so much more to go
