I'd be surprised if stealth has much of a benefit against bosses here either, other than possibly avoiding some optional ones or getting a sneak hit in before the battle starts!

I think many people have sticking points with the standard combat as well as just bosses though.

Stealth is really useful in lots of the main areas in Souls games, you can balance the odds much more in your favour in some difficult spots if you know what you are doing!

There's a natural element of stealth but I wouldn't say it's intentionally built in. First playthrough of DS games we tend to sneak around corners and advance cautiously by instinct lol.

I mean it definitely is intentionally built in, the enemies have awareness AI routines and react to various stimulus, you wouldn't bother coding that stuff if you didn't want it as part of your game design. Plenty of areas are clearly designed with routes and vantage points for more stealth oriented players to get the drop on the enemy as well.

It's definitely not a headline part of the experience though that's true, if Elden Ring fleshes that side of things out further and makes it even more satisfying then that will be great!

Don't forget the spells and rings that can make you quieter or less visible. Stealth mage is a really fun playthrough!

Nothing quite like the tension of sneaking up on a tough enemy to go for that backstab.

Then your thumb twitching at the last minute, causing you to make a noise and the enemy turns around, like the gaming equivalent of a person stepping on a twig to alert someone.

I barely used much of the spells but I guess there is that. But they feel much more of a gimmick than anything. You can legit run through most of these games anyway. Never really felt like I was in a point where I needed actual stealth mechanics to get by an area. As for backstabs, they're also pretty exploitable outside of being stealthy. I know I'm looking at it way too literally tho. There are def choices designed for players if they really want it.

The "running through everything" approach is also a very successful one yeah, plus you have the added bonus that if you look behind you even now and then you can get a nice Benny Hill style line of enemies chasing you!

Seems like that video got taken down, but there are mirrors popping up all over YouTube now. Here's one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUlP4BEDVgs

Looks cool to me!

Hard to tell anything substantial from 28 seconds but it looks very "open world style Dark Souls" which is great. (The player character's face even looks a bit hollowed to my eye so maybe the visual effect from being tarnished is the same!)

Has anyone made a Death of the Wild joke yet?

I don't think a one month delay to finish off is a big deal, but the phrasing on that tweet is very funny.

This game is simply TOO DANGEROUS AND POWERFUL to be released in January, we need extra time to contain it, please understand

 .

"The game has been delayed because it's way more brilliant than we thought it'd be."

It kinda feels like every game currently in development is now gonna release in February. Nothing can go wrong with this approach.

The problem with Elden ring is it's almost too good.
