Then managed to defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void on my first attempt which is just typical of this game. Lesser enemies are frequently far tougher than the legendary ones.

Think I'm now pretty close to finishing Ranni's quest, which is nice.

Astel was a prick when I fought him last week. Ended up having to go back to Renalla and use a Larval Tear to respec so that I could batter him with Sorceries instead of my (to that point) completely melee based build.

And yeah you've not got too much more to go on Ranni's questline.

Pure melee madness, just whipped some magic grease on my katana and went to work. He did manage to defeat my mimic tear towards the end so it got a bit hairy, but dat blade carried me through :datass:

Just started playing this. Just completed the Tutorial bit and made my way through the cave and now the map has just opened up and I am at the first bonfire with a big dude on a horse off in the distance.

Should I have my own horse by now, or does that come later? Worried I've missed something.

Thanks Orange, and yes, they really did nail the "opening up" setup very well.

Is there a word for what I'm trying to explain? Where the game suddenly opens up ala Skyrim/Fallout/Zelda Hyrule etc?

If not I want to coin the phrase "unwrap"

The reveal?

That's a good question, I don't know what I'd call it (although I'm thinking of two slightly different things - there's the "step out into the open world, camera pulls back and pans across the vista" BOTW moment where you actually see the world laid out, and then the less specific "ok now you can go anywhere" moment that happens in e.g. Skyrim. In BOTW that second moment doesn't happen until you leave the great plateau, so after the vista reveal, but in Elden Ring they happen together.)

This strawberry floating game: Kill the NPC (doesn't have to be done right away) after the Rykard fight for a SECRET BOSS FIGHT :lol:

Can get it to phase 2 quite regularly, but 2nd phase just kicks my arse.

Not saying it'll make it massively more easy, but are you using the NPC summon? (I only ask because I know someone who had huge trouble with it and didn't know about the summon until much later down the line. lol.)

Aye. Going by your previous posts, I don't think you're ridiculously overpowered and so the fight is likely the challenge the devs intended it to be. I'm sure you'll best it soon enough!

He was literally useless in the second phase for me, I think the boss teleports to a set location when phase 2 triggers and it must have put him out of range for the NPC AI so he just sat there idle whilst I had to solo the Giant prick! :lol:

It didn't take me too many goes in the end, you can get a good read on his movements and attacks after a while, but it definitely wasn't a walkover either

I really REALLY have to stop summoning Mimic Tear while I have a seal equipped instead of a weapon :fp:
