I'm glad I've got this on PC, originally as a matter of necessity since I don't have a ps5, because I got a randomiser that made subsequent runs way more interesting.

Having no idea what your build will look like rolling up to Marge is pretty fun. Also gave me an appreciation for some stuff I'd otherwise never give a second look at.

kept at it, beat a few more bosses, saw a few more places, trying really hard to get into it

crashed to desktop, hardlocked the machine

uninstalled

had enough

its obviously me missing something here but i legitimately feel its worse than the other games because of the directionless aimless open world

i like the pace of combat and freedom to explore builds etc as a player - but id rather just have a more focused game around it

A core mechanic of the game is literally about direction. But! If you're not feeling it, then you're not feeling it. Better to play something that does it for you than constantly bashing your head against this.

Completed NG+ last night with a sorcery build. Tougher than expected but instead of going NG++ I'll go kill Malenia.
I'm not confident, even at 216.

The wait for Resi 4 is brutal so I've reluctantly gone back to this.

Playing as an Astrologer / Mage. Honestly the subtitle of this game might as well be, lol get strawberry floated melee. The difference in the difficulty is utterly preposterous. It took me like 30-40 hours to get completely through Stormveil on my original playthrough and only beat the boss by calling in help. This time though it was maybe 3-5 and I beat the boss second try, largely using the base magic attack. I don't think using the ranged abilities is overpowered it's just that Melee is so ludicrously under powered it may as well not in the game. It's not an exaggeration to say that I think it more or less ruined my enjoyment of the game first time through.

Related, the game would be more fun if it was more upfront in giving you different spells and spell slots as a mage. Unless you're armed with prior knowledge about where to go you are stuck for too long without the variety and options that make it more interesting.

My partner has been playing a new character and decided that, despite wanting to try a magic build, she would wait to respec later in the game after unlocking things to make it more worthwhile.

I feel like playing the game for 40+ hours already might also contribute to why the opening feels easier! I'm sure magic is easier overall though. Personally, I think I'm going to do a fresh, full melee run for the DLC so that I can compare it against sorcery. Maybe greatshield and lance, or dual curved greatswords, or something like that.

Is Stormveil that first castle? Did you play as that all but naked class?

I've never completed any of the Souls games as a caster / battle mage. But I've also never done a full 2H run. Shield + 1H 4life.

Mage is definitely easy mode. I got through most of the game by spamming rock sling or whatever it's called.

Rock sling

Plenty of great melee weapon options for intelligence builds though- Moonveil, Dark Moon Greatsword, Death's Poker, Glintstone Kris, Flintstone Fred...

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I already beat the game with Melee I found it an unending pain in the arse.

Melee is incredibly satisfying in this IMO, no combat system comes close to it. Didn't dabble in magic until near the end of the game, think it would have removed a lot of the enjoyment for me if I'd used it from the start personally.

Can't strawberry floating wait for the DLC, might push this even further up my all time games list - it's already troubling the top 10 :datass:

Sekiro is infinitely better.

Different =\= better.

The broader scope of approaches in this is a positive over Sekiro IMO

Nope. I'd rather somebody curate a combat a combat system for me rather than throw up their hands and just say 'strawberry float it you decide' and then if they pick the wrong thing have the game be an exercise in massive frustration.

Made it to Raya Lucaria Academy, definitely the weakest Legacy Dungeon of the game. But now that I think about it Stormveil Castle might be the only one I actually like. I suppose the Haligtree is cool and would be great if it didn't go on forever.

I don't like Sekiro style combat so I'm glad the game lets me choose how to engage with it! Have to admit I don't really understand why you didn't respec into magic the first time through if you didn't enjoy how the melee combat worked.

...Or why you're playing it again at all if you don't like any of the dungeons  not having a go, it's just like, what are you getting out of it?
