After sleeping on it... kind of hype. But only because, chances are, between now and this game's release, I won't be playing many other souls-alikes. So by the time this does roll around, I'll be up for it. I'm still disappointed that From have yet to try their hand at something totally away from the Souls genre, but they're peerless at making these and I usually end up enjoying them immensely (Sekiro is the only one I didn't continue on with after making a start on it) so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

None. They will have all been written before the show.

Yeah, the closest to that is that GRR Martin is doing writing on it.

Martin has apparently done the lore of the world. (So, the past of the world we're playing in.)

I think the engine is starting to look a bit old, honestly. I'm sure the game will be brilliant though. No doubt about that.

To contribute something on topic (for once), it does look good and I'll likely buy it. Hopefully there's a bit more depth to the world than everything just being bastard hard all the time.

It looked alright, no doubt one for the sales when it comes out (it's not going to hit that release date).

Jeff Grubb is kinda instigating that Sony is forcing devs to 'not work with Xbox' through threats of not promoting their games on PS shows and adverts etc, Elden Ring was supposed to be at the Xbox E3. Now this is capitalism and they are the market leader so it's kind fair enough even though it's kinda sh*tty but maybe MS would do the same if they were in a similar position.

The only problem with this coupled with the money hatting is that (it looks like) MS are going to get more aggressive. Sony get 2 games from Bethesda console exclusive - MS buys Bethesda is the biggest example that comes to mind. I don't think MS should buy many more companies but rumours are they have acquired 4 more already, at some point this won't be healthy for gaming as a whole, although we are quite a distance from that yet it's both interesting and weird that these things are happening.

To be fair there has always been huge depth to the world in Souls games, it's just that they very rarely foreground those elements and leave it to the player to piece things together. I'd be up for this having a slightly more "main stream" approach to conveying the story/lore of the world but I wouldn't want it to lose all of the real benefits of the way they From have traditionally gone about things.

Watched the trailer another few times this morning, just looks fan-fucking-tastic, really can't wait for this one!

I meant more in a way that the world is easier to get more out of without it just being poison swamp X stuffed with nasty blobs and a ring you find on a body that says a giant took a gooseberry fool there and that's why it's bad.

I love the exploration part of souls games more than the combat really, and the threat of death makes looking around the map that bit more thrilling.

Well there's a horse this time so that should help! :toot:

From what they show in parts of the trailer, coupled with the snippets that have been revealed in previous press stuff, it definitely feels like the type of activity the player will be getting up to in this will be expanded beyond the core demonstrated in previous Souls games

I think the best case scenario for this game is that the open world approach adds to the combat, making it more varied and player choice driven ("emergent" I guess!), and that the influence of GRRM makes the "main story" a bit more thought-through and accessible.

The realistic worst case scenario, given From have never made a bad Souls game - no, DS2 isn't bad, shush TWA! - is that this plays and reads exactly like Dark Souls 1 but a bit bigger and with a horse now.

It's going to be a 10 from me either way :slol:

The GRRM stuff is kinda odd because souls games usually have little to no story at all....maybe thatsthejoke.jpg
