That'll teach 'em to shut down our forum.

Gamesindustry.biz wrote:Future Publishing, the company behind a number of print and online videogame publications - including Edge - saw its share price tumble to a seven-year low today.

It dipped to 21 pence, just 0.5 pence above its all time low which was set back in July, 2001, a drop which brings the company's market capitalisation down to just GBP 68 million.

Future, which has seen print advertising revenues fall in recent years due to the increasing popularity of online sites, has shifted its emphasis towards the internet more recently and reported a rise of 2 per cent in July this year.

Next-Gen was renamed Edge Online in July, while both GamesRadar and CVG have received design makeovers in order to freshen their appeal to the consumer market. The publisher's portfolio still spans a wide range of titles across a number of platforms in the games market, which has seen a general decline on print circulations, although a minority of titles have managed to buck the trend.

While the share price may not necessarily reflect the company's performance or cashflow situation, and instead be more indicative of wider economic conditions, the low market capitalisation may well make it a target for acquisition unless the stock picks up again soon

Print media is not going to do anything but decline; if I were in the business I would be furiously putting as much of my assets into online reporting as possible.

I had a phone call this week from whoever makes Games TM trying to sell me 3 issues for just £1 which I turned down because I know I'd end up forgetting to cancel the subscription an end up with a year long sub.
The bloke on the other end of the phone could hardly believe that a former subscriber would turn down such an offer but I get all my news from here so why bother.

Because you can read a magazine on the can in a way it's difficult to read the internets?

Though I grant it's becoming a lot easier.

Personally, I have a huge stack of Retro-Gamers scattered all over the house for when I'm away from the PC. It's awesome because reading about old games doesn't really get MORE out of date, and time and distance provide a situation where reporting on games of that age is much easier - people are much more open to talking about these kinds of things now.

I recently let my NGamer subscription expire but that was more down to the fact that I don't have a Wii.

I remember playing Railroad Tycoon and immediately selling all my shares just to get some money. Good times.

Funny you say that I had a call from GamesTM too asking why I hadn't re-subscribed - I had in June though. Said he would 'check his records'. The muppets!
