I'm pleased with this!

As I said to Jawa on twitter, I think I am going to stick with this one and try and turn it into something more playable.

Making the vision "cone" was probably the hardest part, as I had to approximate it out of three rectangles and connect up some invisible blocks on fixed angle hinges between the guard and the touch sensors to get the angles right.

Combine that with your other demos and you're halfway to creating Metal Gear Solid

So is this pretty deep then? Like how big a game can you create?

I'm surprised they haven't pushed this more, it looks very clever.

Now I'm getting ideas to make a Zelda-like game with this even tho I don't have it lol. Seeing how people are using sprites is really cool.

Update! Uploaded now as it failed to upload last night:

Please ignore the stick drift. I tried clipping this several times because of the camera drifting :fp:

It has its limitations, but then there are also some creative ways of working around those limitations. Individual games can't be too complex because of the part limits (although they are still reasonable, it depends what you are making!) but you can link together multiple games, so it would be possible to say have a hub world that links to separate levels and each would be its own "game" but they'd play as one.

I got rather excited seeing the videos (very impressive btw Rakoon).

But there's no physical release in the UK?
Bit of a swing and a miss that. I was hoping to buy it for my oldest to learn about making games.

Switch is region free so you could import, but yeah that's a hassle (and more expensive).

I must admit, watching your videos is making me tempted to pick it up and try it myself.

Try the demo!

It lets you do the first interactive lesson to make a 2D one screen tag game.

Yeah your experiments are looking great OR and definitely making me want to get this sooner rather than later!

Searching twitter for #gamebuildergarage is a great way of seeing some of the cool stuff that people have made as well. Seems like people are really pushing this thing already!

I thought Game Builder Garage would be a game I would love, but seeing & hearing about people playing it has made me wonder if maybe it's not for me.

It seems to simultaneously be quite complex - not incomparable to actual game scripting - and yet quite limited, having a low entity limit that means you can only really make simple proof of concepts.

It makes me think it would be more rewarding to just play around in one of those simple toy game frameworks like PyGame or Love.

That's probably a fair assessment. I think it has some of that Switch effect going for it in that it's more accessible just by being on the Switch - like how I play way more indie games on the Switch even though they are available on PC or other consoles. It being a visual language, and the editor being made for stylus + buttons controls, makes it low effort for me to use. It tricks me into feeling like I'm playing a game, rather than trying to do work, I guess!

I can see more technically minded, code-savvy and less handheld-devoted people finding it frustrating in its limitations and interface though.
