Is most of the series set in king's landing? I assumed it was just heavy in the first episode to establish certain characters.

Planning on holding back on this, then binge watching half of the series. I'm somewhat surprised that it's pulling in what appear to be great viewing figures after the ending of Thrones killed so much enthusiasm for the series.

I'm surprised by the success as well as it seems have had a lot less hype over here at least. Will be interesting if sky say it's done as well.

Rhaenyra and Alicent will be played by older actresses going forwards, possibly as soon as next week as the story will jump forwards in time permanently Is that true?

I’ve read something similar, I’ve read from the mid point of the season though rather than episode 2? Either way, I don’t mind a time jump (GoT could have done with some smaller ones at points in my opinion and fill in the gaps through characters speaking) but hope if there is one, its just one into the future rather than jumping to and fro.

The first episode of the show premiered Aug. 22 on Sky Atlantic and some 1.39 million people in total watched it, according to numbers seen by Variety. Of these, almost one million (991,000) either stayed up to watch at 2 am or downloaded via on demand through the day or caught up on recordings. More than 394,000 people watched the prime time linear broadcast.

While final consolidated and cumulative numbers for the first episode are not available yet, for big dramas these can be three to four times as large as the overnights. The true viewing figure is expected to increase significantly, with data expected in 10 days.

Wow they are good numbers. It's odd as I know quite a few who loved GOT, especially a few years back but haven't even checked this out yet.

It's totally understandable after the awful final season of GoT. The sharp decline in quality and rushed ending killed my interest in this.

Maybe I'll give it a go if the general Internet consensus / GRcade consensus is that it's really good but I've certainly no interest in starting the show until at least all of season 1 has finished.

Going to give this a watch tonight, hopefully I’ll enjoy it as it’s been a fair while since I could say I’ve enjoyed a full episode of TV based in Westeros.

Got the first episode watched and it’s ok? I still feel in a slightly bitter mood about the franchise after how poorly it went towards the end so probably being slightly harsher on this than I should be probably. Thought the cgi looked quite poor in places, the overhead views of the tourney looked the worst in my opinion. As I’ve mentioned before I’ve not read the book but I’m guessing the Targaryen’s knowing about the Long Night is basically a bit of a retcon? I was under the impression the Doom of Valyria was a natural disaster that caused the Targaryens to flee to Dragonstone and subsequently Westeros when they wanted more land? Also does that make Cersei a secret Targ as she was sat on the Iron Throne at the time of the Long Night

It’s definitely not all bad though, some great casting and subsequent acting performances, I’m liking the return to the more political side of things which the early series of GoT thrived on as well. Not 100% sold on it but it’s worth a watch at least.

This is a hard sell to me as I hated how GOT ended. But, I was in my childhood home of Marazion when they filmed some scenes so it kind of got me invested. They butchered my boy of St Michael's Mount though from the trailers I've seen.

Kind of a mundane story, but I always visit St Michael's Mount whenever I return. Whilst they were filming, nobody was allowed on the Mount. It was off peak season so I can't complain. But it was so great knowing what they were filming, and walking the causeway and chatting to the National Trust security guards on the gate to the Mount. The guys and girls we spoke to were amazing, they were totally down to earth and played it up, apologised for shutting off the island.

I want this series to succeed on that basis as the national trust staff were amazing!

Enjoyed the first episode. Thought it has been well cast and had some good performances in it.

It really does suffer from the bittertaste GOT left though.

Ia the average GOT viewer supposed to know who all these people are? Me and the GF keep arguing over who is who but I don't want to know if it's supposed to be a surprise.

My geuss is that Lil blonde girl and the baratheon are John's parents, and Matt Smith + will be Danni's parents? Am I even close or is this way in the past?

Yeah sure, but as there are also dragons and Ice Zombies I wasn't sure if they were keeping to realistic lifetimes etc.

So we're not supposed to know who these people are in relation to GOT? I'll be happier if that's the case as I can stop trying to guess.
