Yeah.

Also this sort of nitpicking (the kind I was getting into, I mean) is pointless. The end was never going to work given the quality of the story going into the endgame. It was an end. Not a good end but also not the worst they could have made.

I don't care enough to get into the nitty gritty anymore.

It's over. Thank strawberry float.

I don't actually mind it being Bran, he's the least tainted by the events of the last 8 seasons, the least likely to hold any grudges, the most bipartisan and measured candidate, probably the wisest and least prone to vanity/greed/corruption etc, all good traits for a balanced and fair leader. Plus he sits down all the time anyway so the throne would be second nature for him.

But as with everything GoT related, whatever choice they made people wouldn't have been happy. The show was too big and sprawling for it to ever finish in a completely satisfactory way.

It’s not over. They have just started filming the prequel. ;)

He's so boring and pointless to the plot they left him out of one season as he had nothing to do/contribute

That’s what I was trying to say. Bran is a strawberry floating TERRIBLE choice for the viewers, but he is actually probably the best choice for the people of that world.

For us the best choice would have been the Night King winning. For the average pleb of Westeros, Bran will be better than they are used to.

An extremely minor thought :shifty: - there was no way the ink had dried when Brienne slammed the book shut after writing about Jaime. I did enough butterfly paintings in my youth to know how that one worked out. She just ruined that entire entry about Jaime. Rookie.

We were talking about that at ours last night. I'll give it a watch if the reviews are decent but this season went a long way into destroying all interest I have in this universe. Not even fussed about the books anymore.

Which is sad. But there's a lot of worlds out there to get lost in.

EDIT: My preferred ending would definitely have been the Night King winning and Westeros being left a glacial ruin, a testament to the follies of man with a few survivors retreating to Mereen (Which would still have been controlled by Dany, who becomes the saviour she always wanted to be). Alas.

Thing is, the Bran plotline could have been great. The Hodor time-travel bit was genuinely interesting and clever, it just became half-assed after that.

If nobody could win the Iron Throne then that would have been my preferred option. Maybe with the individual Kings voting on a “High King” to decide on matters relating to all the kingdoms.

As a high king Bran would have probably made more sense, he has the ability to access the past and present to see how decisions could impact all of their lives and as we’ve been told can’t have kids the relevant kings/queens of the 7 kingdoms could decide on a new high king when he does eventually die.

Tafdolphin wrote:That's another thing... There was zero suggestion Bran was going to be a good monarch. His entire arc this season has been his increasing detachment from human affairs. As someone else mentioned it's likely it'll be Tyrion, not Bran, who'll be ruling. As Tyrion spent the last 2 seasons strawberry floating up everything he touched that doesn't bode well for the 6 kingdoms (see: his appointing Bronn as the master of coin). And look what happened last time there was a king who didn't give a strawberry float (that's be Robert).

Also, I guess Ellaria Sand (the ruler of Dorne remember) just...died when the Red Keep came down? Maybe?

I’m guessing they just forgot about Ellaria

Your right that Bran has shown very little interest in ruling (except his line about saying that’s why he travelled all this way), sadly we’ll never see how it pans out.

I don't think it was even half-assed, it was completely forgotten about. What was the point of the Three-Eyed Raven and his motives? Was he supposed to help stop the Night King, because he didn't do much apart from act as bait? Was he always planning on becoming ruler, because that wasn't made clear? And all the time-travel stuff seems to have been completely forgotten about, didn't Bran interact with someone when he was in the past viewing Jon's birth? What was the point of that?

Just to please Peter Crisp, the prequels series is going to be told from King Bran’s point of view. All 16 seasons of the show will focus on Bran time travelling back to the early days of Westeros to change and guide history.

I love time travel shows but this would just be the worst thing ever.
He would just pop up at some crucial event and say something cryptic and deathly dull which the people only figure out about 3 years after all the events he's trying to warn them about.
He could just pop in and say "Excuse me but this guy is about to murder a bunch of people so you may want to keep an eye out and just so you know I'm a time traveller and the White Walkers do return so keep that in mind!" but no he just hand them a stupid riddle and look gormless.

All of that, but 16 seasons with 20 episodes each. :datass:

Minor criticism - there should have been more blood coming out of Dany's nose and mouth when Jon stabbed her. It should have been a really grim, spluttering/coughing/choking death where there was so much blood and she got all distressed and fought for every last breath, so that Jon had to live with that horrific image. But instead we just get 2 little trickles of (CGI) blood coming out of her mouth and nose and she slips off peacefully, retaining the beautiful image that she kept for the majority of the series. They could also have slipped in some more signs of her madness, maybe even forcing Jon to stab her again just to make sure.

Ah well, it's done now.

There shouldn't have been any blood at all. That's not how stabbing works.
