Previous thread: t:game-of-thrones?f=7

Stolen from the other thread:

Fargo wrote:
Summers span decades, winters can last a lifetime, and the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond.

Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men... all will play the 'Game of Thrones.'

A new original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series. Winter is coming soon to Sky Atlantic HD.

"No book chatter please this is just to discuss the TV Show"

EDIT: A message from Eighthours...

SPOILER POLICIES FOR THIS THREAD

Please ensure that all specific plot details are spoilered before the UK airtime (currently Monday night, 9pm) in order to keep the topic safe for normal watchers. Once the episode has aired, feel free to discuss TV plot details freely but bear in mind this is a Book-discussion-free thread.

This is a TV-pace thread. There can be future plot/character speculation from people who haven't read the books and explanations of what has changed between the books and the series from those who have read the books, ONLY WHEN SUCH EXPLANATIONS DO NOT HINT AT FUTURE EVENTS BUT SIMPLY PUT THE TV INTERPRETATION FROM AN AIRED EPISODE IN CONTEXT.

If you wish to post about events that have happened ALREADY in the TV show and relate them to the books (for example, to explain a change in a certain scene), please write above the spoiler box exactly what kind of spoiler is within the box.

Examples of acceptable pre-spoiler box text: "Difference between book and TV series." "Future speculation (non-book reader)."

There should be no references to actual future events from the books in this thread. None. Never. No hints. Nothing.

If you post a book spoiler in this thread, you will be banned from the thread for a period of not less than one week.

Common sense, people. That's all it takes. It really isn't rocket science. Please be considerate of other forumites.

Please mark all spoilers very clearly as to their type, so that everyone will know what kind of text is within the box before they click on it.

(Tapatalk users, beware: Anything within a spoiler box will show up as normal text.)

No reason to start a new thread when this season is over in five weeks. I won't be contributing to this one on general principle.

Given the drivel spouted by some of you - I've spared us all a load of grief.

Hopefully I’ll be watching episode 1 as soon as I finish work tomorrow :)

Just got 3 episodes of season 7 to watch over the course of today. Also just a quick question, why is the book spoiler note/ban still in effect? The TV show is well past the books at this point and I’m not sure how much previous book spoilers will really spoil any of the last 6 episodes.

Despite the fact I don't like how they sped gooseberry fool up in the last season and seem to be in a rush to get this completed, I cannot wait for this final season to get started.

But doesn't the book have characters that don't appear in the show? If that's the case, then I still wouldn't any of their related stuff spoiled. (I'm on a book 2 hiatus.)

I'll not change the rule, because I'm pretty sure it's been imposed by the mods specifically because of previous conversations on the subject, and I don't have the authority to overrule their decisions. Don't talk about the books because there might be stuff in there that forms part of potential future spoilers in the show.

Yes the books do have characters that haven’t appeared in the show, but at this point I very much doubt they’re going to introduce many (if any) new, major characters in season 8, certainly not ones that have been omitted from the move from book to TV anyway.

Mind me asking why the hiatus on book 2 anyway? Waiting till the show has ended or just not enjoying it that much? Fair enough that you don’t want any of the books spoilt, maybe business as usual spoiler tagging any that could be seen as a spoiler then)

I love how 'no book discussion' ALWAYS leads to a discussion about book discussion.

Slight overreaction there mate, the other thread was getting annoying as the “go to first unread post” button stopped working properly. There’s no advantage to keeping the old one, so why not start a new thread?

Cannot get Now TV working on my PS4 in HK, and it appears that the only way to get it is some ludicrously expensive two year contract with full installs of dedicated set-top boxes.

So I guess HBO don't want my money and I'll be watching this season on the high seas. :toot:

You’re getting a boat to a territory where NowTV works? Now that’s commitment far more than you show women

Miscounted the episodes I had left earlier, have 4 left to watch, just watching ‘Spoils of War’ now.

I can see the first episode following smaller bits such as Theon rescuing his sister. Not sure if they'll go all in from the get go.

Can’t remember the actors names but Gendry and Grey Worm were on that Channel 4 cookery show this morning. They didn’t give much away but they did say that GoT usually has a slow open as the season gets set but this one is different.

That might be bollocks and misdirection of course!

I don't think its possible to fully separate the show from the source material but don't see the problem unless people start spoiling major events yet to happen in the show.

Its the same with the MCU thread, people always mention the comics when talking about the films

Life and work got in the way and then, when I got back to reading regularly again, I started on other stuff. Will get back to it when done with current book.

My worry about opening up book discussion is that someone may feel free to mention something they deem acceptable to talk about which is still spoilery for those who are reading the books for the first time. To be honest I'm not in this thread often enough for it to be an issue for me, so I really wouldn't mind if the book was discussed in here.
