I don't think people are mad she turned out to be... uh... mad though. They're annoyed that it's been really, really rushed to the point it just doesn't make sense.

I actually don't mind the Jamie thing. I don't think his whole arc was for nothing. It showed us he's actually a good person, but his biggest weakness has always been his sister.

We've known for a long time there was a chance of Dany doing this. There is at least some history of it in her family. We've seen her not react well to not getting her own way, and we've wanted to see her doing things in a destructive way. But we had 60 episodes of seeing her generally standing up for the weak. Of putting aside her own desire to help others. Then 11 episodes of little glimpses of anger. They should have started having the cracks appear much earlier because after seeing all that good, it doesn't seem particularly believable she'd do what she did. It wasn't a reaction to not getting her way. That would have made more sense. It was just a snap decision to destroy a city that had just become her's. They've never hinted she was angry at the people of Westeros, just the people that rebelled against her Father. She's always been banging on about going back to save people from the tyranny of the usurpers.

If the books end with Dany going mad, and it's handled properly, I don't think anyone would be mad.

Dany killed Varys and blamed Sanza for his death early in the episode.

I also noticed the Scorpions become vastly more articulate and ornate than the planky versions, in a very short space of time.

similar to how the dragon seem to have changed sizes, and not just gotten bigger.

In other words quite a few scenic continuity issues, but who gives a strawberry float about that.

That's not a great counter point to the criticism though. It's only focusing on the plot point itself, not the writing, character development, pacing etc which is the main aspect of many people's complaints.

I took that article to point to the fact that in some ways it hasn't been rushed - there's been eight seasons of Dany being 'chipped away' at, so really quite a lot of character development! There is probably a decent point there, although I don't think that article makes it particularly well.

My own opinion is in line with the complaints you list; I think it's been rushed to the point of cheapening what should and could have been great moments.

Dany has done plenty of things that aren't entirely rational throughput the previous 7 seasons, she burned a witch alive to bring her dragons to life, burned several people in anger, burned down buildings full of people who hadn't directly harmed her and generally acted like a pyromaniac.

Then there's also all the terrible things she's seen and endured from a young age, its no wonder she'd eventually snap entirely.

The real problem is that the writers have completely destroyed the pacing because they no longer care about the show now they have a big Hollywood contract.

So their Star Wars project certainly has the potential to be good (if it’s based on KOTOR content of course), does that mean if it’s terrible we can lay the blame solely with them again?

I think it's pretty conspiratorial to assume that the showrunners (what is a showrunner, by the way?) are phoning this series in just because they've got another gig lined up. Like working on the biggest TV show in the history of Westeros isn't something that they'd take seriously because of Star Wars, seems a bit unlikely in my opinion.

Did anyone ever confirm the reason for reducing the number of episodes per season? I would normally assume that it'd be a cost issue, but surely GoT makes plenty of dollar?
