I'd always assumed it.was due to the massive cost of each episode as the series have gone on.

Apparently not, HBO offered them more money and more episodes but the showrunners turned it down.

Except HBO would have been happy to make more:

"HBO would have been happy for the show to keep going, to have more episodes in the final season," Benioff said. "We always believed it was about 73 hours, and it will be roughly that. As much as they wanted more, they understood that this is where the story ends."

"To their credit, they [HBO] put their money where their mouths are — literally stuffed their mouth full of million-dollar bills which don’t exist anymore," he joked. "They said, 'We’ll give you the resources to make this what it needs to be, and if what it needs to be is a summer tentpole-size spectacle in places, then that’s what it will be.'”

I don’t know why they (HBO) don’t just let them go?

After all, many tv shows have changed their show runners. The Walking Dead did that often.

I mean I can't really fault the direction of the story, it's just the pacing that feels off. This season should have been mostly about the white walkers to do that plot thread justice, and then have the final season about the North slowly progressing down to Kings Landing.

Otherwise, things are panning out much as I'm expecting, but a lot of people will be butt hurt if it doesn't end with a Stark on the throne. But personally I don't want a happy ending.

Yeah I think if they had spread this season over two seasons then people would have much less problem with it. All of the main plot points have been fine, it’s just the rushed nature of this season.

I now think Taf will be right and Gendry will end up on the throne.

Surely the Iron Thrones has been destroyed? The Red Keep was obliterated. I reckon they'll forge a new throne, but instead of being made from swords it'll be made from something else to symbolise a new era of peace and unity. Perhaps they could make it out of old John Lennon cassette tapes?

Jet fuel can't melt steel beams. Dragon fire can't melt iron thrones.

Given that they're probably following the broad story strokes of GRR Martin, basically the bit he's responsible for is good and what they're responsible for is bad then.

I think it's a bit rich of GRRM to have a problem with the writing. He should have got off his arse and finished the books.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

It really does feel like every one of the creators behind this thing just can't be bothered any more.

Wtf I just read a breakdown of the episode and they talk about the golden company?! I didn’t even notice them in that episode unless it’s the ones that surrendered and got massacred? I thought they were Lannister’s though. didn’t we spend at least an entire season, possibly two, where they recruited that golden army? :fp:

They were the army standing outside the city gates:

The soldiers who surrendered were wearing Lannister armour.

They were the absolute geeks the that got ruined when the dragon burst through the gates behind then they got rushed by Grey Worm and the rest of the army.
