Solid opening episode I thought. Its been a while since I read the book but it seems quite faithful to it.

All very good, I thought, except for one thing:

Khal Drogo raping Dany. :fp:

I don't see why they just didn't follow the book there.. :|

Opening credits were great, weren't they? :D

Brilliant, loved it.

Also, can we keep book chatter/spoilers out of this thread? I'm sure it's a popular enough series to justify it's own talking grounds (or just use the literature thread).

Decent starter, they did well to not make it too complex

Awesome start.

Finished where I thought it would too.

Bran taking a fall! Jaime is pretty much an evil strawberry float, as is the Queen. Damn Lannisters!

Highlights for me would definitely have to be Tyrion, the masses of breasts on show and the Whitewalkers (Aint seen any more of them in the books yet, but I think I'm getting near them).

My only minor quibble were the Dothraki.

I'd pictured them in my mind as being bigger and more exotic looking. They just looked like a bunch of muscled dudes with tans. :|

But still a very good start, and they did keep it fairly straightforward and not confusing at all. Can't wait for the next one.

Oh and Sean Bean is perfect as Ned.

Now back to the book!

Yeah, The Dothraki looked like extras from Hercules or Xena. Not very impressed.

But other than that I thought it was pretty good. Viserys is well cast I think though his part was a bit low-key this episode, and I liked Arya. Jaime Lannister looks like the live action version of Prince Charming from Shrek (which is pretty much spot on, really). The older Stark boys are all a bit interchangeable at the moment but hopefully they'll come into their own. Tyrion was the highlight (apart from all the boobs obviously) and Robert Baratheon was the lowlight - I just don't think he portrays any of the right qualities. He's meant to be a physically very powerful man gone to fat, not a plain old fat man. He wielded a strawberry floating war hammer for crying out loud! (Erm, didn't he..?).

Oh, and the Wall looked great.

I watched this last night having never read the books. It's rather pervy isn't it

Looks like the story is going to be rather deep, so I might rewatch each episode to keep up (with the story).

Is it too pervy to watch with your parents? My mum wants to watch it too but if it's full of tits and sex then I'd rather wank to it watch it in my room :shifty:

There were lots of characters to follow, but this character/bloodlines map should help you decode who's who: http://i.imgur.com/w0i3N.jpg

(No spoilers in there for anyone who has seen the first ep, as far as I'm aware.)

Watching the last scene with your parents would be fine :shifty:

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Just saw the first episode and thought it was really good. Sean Bean  . Who plays the Queen? I swear I've seen her in something before.

Didn't like the ending at all, Bran was becoming my favourite character during the episode, he surely can't die already. :( But I think the bastard son is pretty cool too.

She's Sarah Connor from Sarah Connor Chronicles. She was in 300 as well, maybe.

Saw this yesterday and rather enjoyed it. Great start to keep someone interested from the very beginning! Seeing as it's HBO I was kind of expecting the stuff that I saw  . I'll assume it's sort of like that in the books? I'm really bad with pilot episodes though, remembering names/places etc. (although i thought the opening credits were great and very helpful). Whilst watching it I'll check my phone or something and by the end I've realised that in those 20 seconds I've missed something big  :fp: .

So, from what I could gather from this (hoping people can correct me where I go wrong or miss stuff) is:

Sean Bean is in charge of the north and the King (the big drunk guy) has come to the North to ask Bean to look after the kingdom in the capital so he can be a drunk whore chaser as he isn't really cut out for being King? Also, the Queen, the dude she plowed and the imp are brother and sisters, right? Who was the little kid who was perving over Beans daughter at the feast?

The creepy albino brother and sister were from a family who were banished I take it? He seems to think he's the rightful king so wants to amass an army of tanned rapists to invade the mainland. Am I right in thinking we don't know why exactly he thinks he's king yet?

Then I got rather confused at the end when Beans wife got the letter from her sister (not sure who her sister is) saying someone was murdered and then after that my mind went blank as the names flew over my head. Was this something to do with the stone statue the king was moaning about being in Winterfell? (was that his wife before he married this incest lover?

I think I got most of it, as it wasn't exactly a complicated episode (which I was kinda thinking it would be), but I think I missed a couple of things that make it all come together nicely.

Either way I am looking forward to the next episode and will not allow distractions this time!

Ugh, I hate imdb. I went to check the cast to see their names in the show etc, but forgot it's got how many strawberry floating episodes they're in. I seriously have no idea why they have it like that. It's awful. No wonder I never use that tripe site. :x

Just about, but a couple of things:

The opening scene was the funeral or whatever for the previous King's Hand, who's death prompted Fat King Robert to ask Bean to take his place. The old Hand was married to Bean's wife's sister, who sent the letter at the end claiming he was murdered. The statue in Winterfell is of Bean's sister, who was betrothed or something years ago to Fat King Robert before she died apparently. To make up for that pairing not happening, he suggests Bean's daughter marry his (blond leering) son. The other blonds, the would-be-King and his (hot naked) sister were part of the ruling family that were usurped in a War by FKR and went into exile, and are now plotting some kind of revenge.

I hope that covers everything in terms of the episode, and I don't think I mentioned anything not stated in the show, though it's tricky, knowing the books to see what should and shouldn't be known at the moment.
