Why don't they just get dummy boxes for display? It's just yet another reason to buy online, I don't want to pay full price for your scabby boxes and handled discs thank you very much.

It’s a stock keeping measure. Generally two copies of a game are opened, “gutted”, and kept with a third copy. This is the “control” copy, which should always be the last thing in the drawer.
The idea is that sealed copies are sold until stores get down to the last two copies, after which display boxes should be removed or restickered to denote the item as being out of stock.
I have no idea why a store would not sell sealed copies as a general rule, that seems weird. And the discs should be carefully placed in protective paper envelopes, not manhandled.
Well, anyway, agree or not, that’s the reason. If only display boxes were used, keeping track of stock would be even more challenging than it is.

Having run a GAME store with a tiny stockroom, I still call nonsense. The more boxes you open, the more potential stock you lose. Whichever store is doing that are idiots.

My local Asda, which has quite a large games section, always hands out a sealed copy. GAME are just shite and I look forward to their Christmas season report where they announce yet another profit warning.

Fire sale is a-coming.

Appears they had a marginally better Christmas in 2017 thanks to Switch, VR and X.

I always make them show me the disc before they seal the pack. I like to annoy them. I think my days of buying physical copies are almost over anyway - I just play the Games with Gold and Games Pass stuff now.

The GAME reward card is about to get a little less rewarding...

With effect from 25/01/2018 we're making a change to clause 10 of the Terms and Conditions that govern the GAME REWARD scheme. At the moment that clause says that REWARD points are calculated at the rate of 1 point for every £0.125 spent. We are changing this so that REWARD points are calculated at the rate of 1 point for every £0.25 spent.

A little less rewarding? It's half the points you currently get! I thought they were trying to drive people into stores. Absolute melters.

Didn't they launch a new card which you have to pay for but gets you more points?

I'm interested in getting a PS4 pro so went in the other day, spent ages looking for deals or even any adverts for it.... Nothing. Just loads of amazing packs (t shirt, key ring and game) for £60 +

I'll miss having a game store but in 5 year we'll probably all be digital anyway so it's a dying market.

Wish my image sig would work

I think the more telling thing is that the previous "normal" rewards points level has been shunted to their bullshit "elite" service and they're trying to make it sound like a good deal by saying you get 10x more with it.

I tried to buy an exclusive deck of cards from Game last weekend. The first time I've shopped at the company in a good few years. I got a 505 error whenever I tried to get to the "enter payment" page :fp: they had no customer support available either so I bought it from a scalper on eBay.

Went into GAME yesterday where I picked up a surprise bargain. Dragon Quest Heroes II & Warriors All-Stars on PS4 for £9.99 each new.

What was funny, though, is that next to each copy of said games they had pre-owned copies in the 3for2 offer for £19.99 each! I double checked with a staff member who, themselves trying not to laugh, assured me that was the correct pricing as per the store system for both versions, (new and pre-owned). :fp:

The company is bonkers.

I'm going to swing by my local tomorrow anyway, will keep an eye out. KT warriors games almost never drop in price but when they do they go pretty hard, so thanks for the heads up.

FIFTY THREE POUNDS

Just to put this price into perspective, it's £44.86 at Shopto; £49 at Amazon, Smyths Toys and Tesco; and £51.99 at Argos.

So in other words, those Elite points are worth positively strawberry float ALL.

You'd almost believe that the brass at GAME absolutely believe they're the only games retailer available to UK gamers.

I imagine their very last board meeting before they go into administration will open with "ok, hands up who knew that Amazon didn't just sell books..."
