Yeah, I get that it stops thieves but where else fills their shelves with items that are out of stock? You don't take an empty tin of beans to the counter at Tesco only for the cashier to tell you it's out of stock when they ring it up. If something is out of stock I think it should be labelled as such.

Because labelling something as out of stock puts people off coming in and asking, when they might buy a funko pop or something else as a consolation if you get them in the door first.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess it just doesn't reflect my shopping habits. I rarely browse these days, typically I go to a store for one thing and if they don't have it I leave.

Went into Norwich game the other day they had a X Box Notebook for £9.99, went into my local QD discount store picked up the same thing for £1.99. Pretty big difference in pricing.

Video game stores are they only stores I've ever seen do this, it gives the illusion everything is okay when it perhaps isn't.

Also they never put 'live' boxes of stuff out on the shop floor, someone could run in, grab one and run out again otherwise. I once saw some dodgy prick asking to hold and 'have a look' at the actual console box, despite being told the display ones are exactly the same but empty, and getting all pretend-uppity when they were told they always keep the actual machines out back until sold, clearly trying to grab one to do a runner "are you calling me a FAAAAKKING thief m8?" etc

Woolworths in Glastonbury used to put the real PlayStation game boxes on the shelves and sometimes forget to take the game discs out. I know this because a mate lifted a few from there. Tekken 2 on launch day springs to mind.

I saw this advertisement from them today for GAME ELITE...

Image

Subscription costs £3 a month or £36 a year.

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is currently £53.49 at Amazon, £54.85 at Base, and way under 50 quid on eBay, therefore still drastically cheaper than having to sign up for GAME's premium loyalty card.

A mate of mine swears by that, he thinks it’s good value…something to do with trade-ins, I dunno. Sounds like a total rip to me.

Gotta justify the premium membership with of goodies, so why not butcher something that wasn't broken to do so?

I remember trying to flog the standard rewards card to people for £3. That was a hard enough sell, I can imagine the challenge of getting people to sign up for that gooseberry fool

They charge £5 for in store collection as well.

Presumably even when the item is in stock in the store. I mean, they already have their own store distribution and allocation network...

Nah, to be fair it's just on things that have to be delivered to the store. And you get a £5 voucher back. It's ridiculous.

Didn't know about the voucher. This was for a pre order and its how I ended up buying pre-order for metroid dread from someone on ebay because they were pissed off about it, preordered it again on amazon and fobbed off the game pre-order to me to cover their losses :slol:.

What would also worry me is if GAME went bust tomorrow, all that money on the loyalty card wouldn't be worth gooseberry fool. Imagine if you were one of these people that had saved a few hundred on there for a console and then poof, all gone.

Retailer of the year 2019 - the year before all retail stopped.

I still have some nostalgia for Game though - I genuinely liked browsing for games, gonks and other such tat. Plus, the staff seemed to love their games too.

But I don't think I've bought a physical game since the pandemic now, nor have I set foot in any non essential shop. I also now resent having to get up and change disc / cartridge, meaning I barely play the physical games I've got, so really not sure how long those places will keep going.

Just been in there to trade a PS4 Pro and Resi 8 and had my eyes absolutely ripped out. £127 for the ‘Station and £27 for the game. Joke.

The Metro Centre GAME has moved to a store opposite about half the size. Less funkos and no in-store group gaming area for everyone to not use. Much like HMV they are now pushing American sweets and soda.

Their mini stores inside Sports Direct are strange, random Lego sets and funkos alongside a small number of games.
