I used to hook my old 20GB Xbox to my router with an ethernet cable. The cable got damaged and I decided I wanted a wi-fi adaptor. I wnt to the GAME in Falkirk and found it was £60 but there was a deal where if I bought ANY item (there were no T&Cs anywhere to be seen on the labels or in the store and none when I asked to see them) I would get it for a lower price.

So, I look around and see a pre-owned copy of GRID for £10 and take it up to the desk. I notice the new copy is £15 so decide to get that instead as it’s also in the offer. When they ring it up they’ve taken the discount off of the game but not the wi-fi adaptor. I question this and they say it only applies to the lowest priced item. I didn’t mind paying full price for the game but I certainly wasn’t paying full price for the wi-fi adaptor

I explain it doesn’t say that anywhere and that’s false advertising. I ask to see the T&Cs and am told “you don’t need to – everyone knows that”. Obviously this is complete nonsense, the label is very clear, there are no exceptions.

Instead of just being polite and saying “ok, there’s been some confusion, but as a gesture of goodwill we’ll honour it” (even though if I was to complain to trading standards they’d have been forced to anyway). Instead they started arguing with me and accusing me of being aggressive (which was funny when it was the manager who stormed over and snarled at me).

He demanded I take a refund since he wasn’t dealing with me anymore then left his poor till assistant to face my mounting anger. I asked her if I’d taken the pre-owned copy would I have gotten the discount. Yes, she replies. So, I pointed out, you’d have made more money from what I actually tried to do, but you wouldn’t do it?

She stared at me, dumb-founded. I was livid and phoned up the head branch for the area. They apologised, sent me an apology letter and said the store should have given me the deal on both items. They also said the manager should have given me the terms and conditions when I asked for them and that a refund was not the right way to have dealt with it. Or the appalling way I was spoken to.

But this is not the first time I’ve dealt with rude staff in the chain’s stores, just the final straw. I had a guy tell me I could play PS3 games on my 360, that the Wii was HD, that I could get HD through a SCART (this was when I got the 360 and asked what the picture would be like through the SCART, which was all I had at the time), that a game on their strawberry floating SHELVES was not out yet and that I didn’t need Xbox Live Gold to play online.

Now, I know my stuff but plenty of people don’t who shop in that place. So next time you try and “sell up” because it’s your job, maybe consider that knowing what the strawberry float you’re talking about is your job too.

I hope they close down.

Not if you're actively advertising it and the refusing to honour it. Also, yes the manager can ask me to leave and refuse to serve me. But that's pretty much missing my point which was that the service was terrible.

Took me a while to work out, there are a few ways, Mail, phone or online, obviously a lot of companies are online now, I used a company called "The Share Center" as they seemed the cheapest on fees, I'm actually quite tempted to make a diverse portfolio in the next few years as I'm obsessive enough to keep on top of it. You have to set up an account and funding options, once you've read through the various documents and understood what funds they take you're set.

I've heard so many things like that, and in the above rant by dftaylor. I've probably said it in this thread already, but I'll say it again - I've gone in there and asked if they've had something on PC - I can't remember what - and they go "It's not out on PC, mate" in a patronising tone, despite me knowing absolutely that it is, then you get looked at like you've walked in wearing a gimp suit for asking about a game on PC.

And the number of inane and flat-out wrong stuff I've heard from the staff - including a few gems like "What's an RTS?" from one particular staff who, let's just say was clearly hired not for her gaming knowledge or experience.

To sum up, both their high street and online shops hold absolutely no interest for me, not fussed about what happens to them. Same with gamestation. Exactly the same but more cramped, loud and smelly.

I would honestly prefer these to the so called gaming enthusiasts they employ.

You deserve the gimp suit look though, just for asking those cretins about anything at all.

Whilst it's all about opinions. Metacritic would agree with the GAME staffer on this one:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360 ... -warfare-3

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/battlefield-3

Exactly, so dual saying he hopes someone gets the sack because they have a different opinion to him is just plain stupid.

Yeah, GameStation employees who 'know' about games are far and away more annoying than the clueless bimbos.

I'd far rather some blonde lass who doesn't know the difference between a 360 and a 3DS offer me a controller when I'm buying a game than have some prick offer me his opinion on the game I'm buying. I was buying Crysis 2, I'd actually gotten to the stage of putting my card in the machine and the guy says "Black Ops is better than this, y'know mate.." I just said that they're actually quite different games and paid. In hindsight I wish I'd said "Oh! Is it? Well I already have Black Ops so I won't bother with this, thanks mate! You've saved me forty quid!" And then walked out. Would have gotten him a nice bollocking from the manager, I'm sure.

Been watching the share price, it's dropping even lower, now close to 6p per share.

I suppose it's the combination of the two that serves to alienate me more than anything else. It seems that generally, with some exceptions of course, the only people who work in gaming retail are the ones who absolutely shouldn't. Although to be fair a lot of the customers aren't the best ever, I once saw an actual fight in a shop between these two awful mothers, one of their kids in a pushchair got knocked over in the process and nobody seemed to care.

Also saw one customer get in a very animated argument with a staff member, accusing them of lying about Halo not being on the PS3, that they'd seen it on it, that it was a big conspiracy etc :fp:

Course you can, promotions can be withdrawn at ANY time. And they can also refuse to serve you outright regardless of what you think your rights are.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

:?

I'm getting tempted to buy some at that price. Could they really go much lower? Might be worth a hundred quids worth or so. Or would that make me a majority owner? :D

I doubt the company will go under, and almost anything they do at this point will only really put the share price up.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but before they go under I could see them selling/downsizing/closing some stores, especially where there are multiple branches or where they have both GAME and Gamestation competing against each other, and something like that is likely to push the share price up as it will put the company in a more stable position.
