Had an email this morning saying it's going on 30th September!

Sooner than expected then. Feel sorry for the staff, what with Christmas around the corner.

Although I've probably only been in there once or twice over the last few years I'll still be somewhat sad to see that one go. There's never a good time to lose a job but as you say this is tough on the staff coming so close to Christmas.

Tbh my local game seems to have more memorabilia than actual games, seriously the stuff is everywhere.
Also guess those Totaku figures don't sell that well as they have loads left.

So that's just CEX left in Cheltenham. Seen all the video game stores close here now. Wonder if Gloucester is next?

The indie closed in Cheltenham? I knew it moved and started to focus on board games...(Edit - Oh wait. That was Proud Lion. Not "Game On". They were always nice in there...but pricey....and out of the way. Felt bad at they tried to run tournies etc, but seemed like the interest just wasn't there)

Glos only has Game, CEX and a HMV left I think

Proud Lion is down the lower end toward The Frog. Going strong. I co-owned Game On when it was in Beechwood Centre. Left before it moved onto the high street and before it subsequently closed its doors.

I ran the tournaments on a Sunday in Game On.

Yeah - Proud Lion used to on the opposite side didn't it.

I visited ii in the Beechwood Centre loads (walked through Debhenhams to get home - I used to live by His Knibbs). Again lovely staff/service, but retail in 2010s :dread:
Where did it move on the highstreet?

Redcar used to have just Game, then had Game and Grainger Games, then just Grainger Games, then Grainger Games and CEX, now just CEX.

I always thought Proud Lion was just a comic shop - do they do gaming stuff as well then? I never tend to venture that far down the end of the high street now, although I guess the brewery redevelopment must have brought more foot traffic that way which can only be good for places like that.

Winchcombe Street I believe. I never went in there once I'd left.

Anyway, yeah we did our best and it was fun for a time, but for a number reasons it just wasn't going to work long term. The key owner ran it on her own in the high street after myself and Darren left.

Thanks for the kind words, although I'd never consider myself lovely.

Pretty much 50% boardgames last time I was in there (over a year ago)

Was in town today and it was kind of sad to see GAME all closed up. Not so much because it was GAME, but more the end of an era. High street video game stores are becoming a thing of the past.

Oddly enough, where the store sign used to be it had "EB Games" scribbled on the background.

"1 in 4 chance of getting mugged outside!"

You don't have to sound so excited, GAME. Anyone would thing you wanted a fight to happen outside the store.

At least those are better odds than the 4 in 4 chance of getting mugged inside with their prices.

The empty unit where Game Cheltenham was did have a sign stating you could still travel to their Gloucester branch for "all your gaming needs".

...or you could just stay at home, order online and save a fortune in the process.

Given the state of footfall in Gloucester's high street I can't see that branch being open much longer either.
