Resident Evil 2 on Xbox One. 44.99 new, 57.99 PREOWNED!!

Would have walked out, but I noticed they had Skylanders Imaginators Kaos mint in box for 99p each, bought all 4 they had

You’d be better off going on Amazon and ordering it for the same £44.99 and getting a steelbook and DLC thrown in.

I remember asking a dude on the counter why some pre-owned titles cost more than brand new version.
He told me "Cause my boss said so and if you don't like it, get you games elsewhere"

That same guy didn't last long working there.

Anyone know what's happening to Game now that Mike Ashley lost out to HMV thus dashing his plans to merge the two retailers?

How would merging HMV and GAME have played out?

My local HMV's game selection is basically the top 3 best sellers for each console shoved next to the checkout.

With PS4, Xbox Two and Switch Mini possibly coming next year 2020 should be a bumper year for GAME.

I've no idea, but that was apparently the man's plan.

Agreed the new consoles will give Game a boost, but the chances of them lasting the entire generation isn't great. They barely scrapped through this gen.

Just seen GameStop have made $679m losses. I wonder how the hell GAME are surviving. Retail game stores will be a thing of the past in a few years.

I read an article yesterday (BBC, maybe?) that was saying how the pre-owned market has been decimated by the shift to digital gaming and games as a service, people just aren't trading their games in anymore. It's going to completely wipe out retail stores in a couple of years.

There's a chain of stores over here similar to GAME called Micromania. They've diversified into selling gaming tat like statuettes, Funko Pops, cosplay equipment, comics and stuff like that. I have no idea how they're doing generally but, despite their games being a constant 15% above online prices, the stores I live near are constantly packed full of people.

MCV UK has once again awarded GAME the “Major Retailer of The Year” award 2019. Well done on another hard fought victory!

Ratner's was the shop chain that was famously screwed by the owner saying "How can we sell this stuff so cheap? Because it's crap!" at a dinner thinking it would get a laugh.
People rather predictably decided they didn't feel like buying stuff from them any more and they went bust.

GAME OVER FOR SUTTON

Image

GAME has announced that their store at 84 High Street, Sutton, Surrey, SM1 1EX in South London is now closed.

The next nearest store will be at 80 North End, Croydon, CR0 1UJ.

Was always empty whenever I passed by.

(And now another permanently empty shop for Sutton)

Little by little it's a slow death for GAME. With preowned sales at an all time low and digital only consoles soon to become a reality it's a bleak future for the retailer.

Overheard in the shop today that they are going to stop stocking and accepting trade in's on 3DS come the 11th of May. They've already cut the prices on pre-owned systems with unboxed 2DS being as low as £30.

Wouldn't surprise me as Nintendo have pretty much finished making games for it and bar Persona Q 2 there's no other notable release coming.

Saw this on eBay:

God, they were even ripping you off back then. "Lowest price guarantee" my arse, it was £39.99 in most places (£34.99 through mail order)!

Overhead some scouse sounding woman in my local GAME ranting about prices and "the good old days" when games cost a tenner.

Obviously doesn't remember the days when the likes of Street Fighter II and Donkey Kong Country cost something like £50 (not adjusted for inflation).
