Race Pro 5/10

 HSH outrage incoming.

Nice Halo cover this month. Also an interesting feature on the Mega CD and 32X called "Dead On Arrival"

Not a great score for Race Pro :? I wouldn't be surprised if it was let down by technical issues that were still noticable in later trailers.

From the Edge review I think its more likely to be the presentation and options front that they had problems with. You know style over substance, pretty much what GamesTM is all about.

ICE BURN!
 I'm still getting it but I'd like to read the review and see what their complaints were.

But the biggest crime against gaming occurs in Race Pro's limited means of progression. It's a straight and stagnant affair: win races, progress to next stage, repeat. There's none of SimBin's trademark drive and determinationin this area of the game.....The AI is sluggish and mechanised, and the graphics and audio engines look positively archaic....one trick pony

They give it a right kicking.

So they don't like the presentation or options then...not sure how audio can look archaic.

And I'm guessing the 'one trick' the game has is that its got the best handling model ever seen in a console racer...you know not something that really matters at all.

Morons.

Sounds like it although I did notice someone post this on rllmuk

"Take away all the driving aids and Race Pro is a runaway success"

but....."Playing with driving aids on quickly demonstrates the games failings in just about every other area."

I have no idea what to make of that.

I would say the AI comment is a massive flaw.

Yep, all games have to be deep to be fun. Overkill is riotously entertaining throughout, and it's good that Edge recognised this. Same goes for Let's Tap (particularly in multiplayer).

Didn't say anything about "fun", games cost a fair amount of money and they have proably been marked down for only offering a couple of hours gameplay.

You have played all three to completion, of course.

Actually my HOTD has turned up this morning so I'll give it a try later.

Given what else they said, I'd say that they haven't got a clue what they are talking about. Probably didn't have it turned up properly or something.
