Gaming gear yellowing | jawa invents sunshine

The yellow on that SNES makes it look out of the 50s! It's cleaned up really well though. You should be chuffed with those results.

I tried the sunlight method and it really didn't do anything. I mean, maybe the eject button on the Gamecube is slightly less yellow but the other areas are just as yellow as before and there was no change at all on my Dreamcast.

Looks like:

Put the Hydrogen Peroxide in a little dish

Put that dish in a tupperware

Put your item balanced over the dish or in the container in a way that would allow airflow around it (not touching the peroxide)

Seal up the tupperware, leave in sun or warmth or both.

Looks like the peroxide breaks down and gets all humid in the container and removes the yellowing after a few hours.

Twitter only afaik, but the summary in the second post is this:

1. Hydrogen peroxide (food/lab grade) 12%, unstable, distilled water based.
2. A stand for the item (so the item isn't touching the chemicals)
3. Large enough container for the item
4. Pour some into the base (into the stand if a lid)
5. Enclose item ensuring there is a seal
6. Light / warmth (ie outside on a summer day)

aayl got in first, but is disqualified for saying "a tupperware".

I don't know how but I somehow imagined that'd be the way to do it, I was obviously paying attention in GCSE chemistry all those years ago.

Don't ask me anything about physics though.

I've not bothered to look at my Dreamcast (which is still in the original box) for at least a decade, looked fine the last time i checked, but have no idea what it looks like now.

Just checked mine and it's looking pretty grotty. Its in a weird half moon configuration also, which has confused me no end.

360 is fine, Nes is fine and one of my Super Nintendo's is. The other is looking worst for wear.

Front port panel of my black GC is possibly looking a touch worse for wear, but my god that console still looks beautiful.
