Atreus? Boy is one of the best things about the game, the relationship and the way it changes throughout the game with Kratos and Atreus is fantastic 8-)

Open world games with lots of side-missions and things to obsessively collect. I will never have the time to see it all so it's wasted on me. I like games with a linear story which doesn't outstay its welcome.

"Our biggest open-world yet"

Also like people have said, "procedurally generated" and "rogue-like" are also massive turn-offs. And any game that's USP is just "it's hard"

Ooooo gaming turn offs (at the top of my head)

Couch co-op.
Forced online only garbage.
Forced co-op.
Multiplayer this, multiplayer that. Check it y’all, big Geoff says his multiplayer is awesome. Proper cool.

God shite tier lazy design like Protect this npc whilst he hides his dirty jazz mags from the police. Zzzzz that so 90s it’s unreal.

I still can’t switch that light off on my PS4 controller. Oooo I can dim the light. strawberry floating yay :|

Missable trophies. I love getting them I do but there is nothing worse than a missable trophy in an extremely long game.
Online/ multiplayer trophies. No one likes em but you game devs keep forcing it into your naff games.

The fact that game devs call micro transactions, micro transactions. I don’t want that gooseberry fool plastered in my face like the times you would open email & there would be something naughty on the screen with the words MASTURBTE NOW!. Just go away.

Speaking of micro transactions, when a game dev has the cheek to sell you a mobile game priced at £40 + and they force you to pay to win like GambleFront II. You can claim you’ve changed stuff all you want but I haven’t forgotten EA. The North remembers. Glad to see it blow up a bit in your face.

You set of banana splits. :capnscotty:

Side missions in open worlds. They lack variety & just drag it out for the sake of it (looking @ you Spider-Man).

Game devs that like making loud noises about how hardcore their game is. Look over there everyone, hardcore Henry is rambling about how his game is extreme (EXTREEEEEEEEME!1!!1!!!) hardcore to the max, baby!
It’s so hardcore you’ll need a pissbag & six cans of carlsberg whilst playing it.
Shut your pie hole Henry.

While the following won't stop me playing a game, they are an annoyance.

Button prompts not being optional when you are well into the game and could control it with your feet by this point

Not being able to save anywhere I damn well like

Unskipable cut scenes

Forced stealth scenes

Still paying full price for things in RPGs when you've just saved the entire village/town from destruction

I'd never thought of this before and now it will hound me forever. :x

Agreed with all o' y'all who hate forced stealth sections (apart from in Rayman Legends for some reason), but what's wrong with couch co-op.? I've been trying to find a good game for me and The Lady to play together on the Switch for ages! (She doesn't like puzzle games, which limits our options a bit.)

Sorry, but in my defence it was the Wife and her love of Might & Magic that first brought it to my attention.

She not interested in Overcooked and Overcooked 2?

Lack of subtitles.

Obviously there's more but if the game has no subtitles then I will not buy it.

See: Spyro trilogy. Still not happy about Activision on that.

Procedural generation is a technique, it's how it is implemented and designed (because it /is/ designed) that determines how good the game is. I don't think it should be an instant turn off for anyone, no more than if I said I don't like levels that have been hand designed just because I've played some badly designed games. SteamWorld Heist for example has procedurally generated levels, but honestly if I hadn't known that I would have thought every level was hand designed, given how each is uniquely constrained to give a specific challenge. I think the stigma comes from games that do use it as a crutch in place of good design, which gives the technique a bad name. It also gets strongly associated with rogulike design, but they are separate things - roguelike design just uses procedural generation. Not every game using procedural generation is built around permadeath and repeated runs for example.

So much this. I will never understand why people get all excited when they hear stuff like 'it's four times bigger than our last game!'. Usually translates to four times as much wandering around doing strawberry float all. To be fair I'm not a fan of open world games at the best of times.

'Unobtainable achievements' is obviously mine though, that's instant dismissal.

Forgot to add games that are arse hole bustingly for the sake of it like Cuphead. It isn't big and clever and it just isn't fun.

I can understand his being a "nope" upon initially hearing of him, but to not play the game even after all the positive noises media and players made? That's just cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Came here to post exactly this. As much as I want to love Majora's Mask, the timer always gave me anxiety. It's also why I keep putting off buying Katamari Damacy on Switch.

I'm strawberry floating bored of Sony's AAA first party games, they always fall into the same cinematic shite. Couldn't care less about the mass wankfest over GoW. Zero interest in it. Sony could really do with diversifying their output next gen rather than just having a bunch of generic, highly polished third person action games once again.

Games that flip between action and stealth. I like shooty bang bang games, I like sneaky sneaky games. I don’t want both from the same game.
