Played Horde on casual and completed 50 waves (sort of, I joined on wave 3) was fun, it was me and 2 other people.

I knew there was still a reason to buy physical discs! Bought Gears of War 4 from Tesco with my friend's discount, and it comes with the codes for 1/2/3/Judgement in the box. So I've redeemed all of those, and then on Monday they sent me a few "thanks for buying Gears of War 4" messages with another four codes :slol:

Donated most of them to my girlfriend for co-op-ing, but I think I should still have a code for the original Gears of War going spare if anyone *hasn't* already got it.

I also got double codes from both the boxed game and messages on Xbox Live. I'll give mine to my 6 year old nephew for his Xbone S he's got for Christmas, I'm sure he'll love the Gears series at his age :shifty:

The Horde packs now have one skin and there is a chance for a bounty (fairly rare). My bounty cards are starting to dry up, and most of the ones im getting now are for waves 1-50 which is very rare with randoms. I think theyve tried to take the horde bounty cards that were only 1-10 out to attempt to stop the quitters. But there seems as though theres still lots of quitters.

One of the best things about Horde 2 was there were lots of maps on day one. but here there are probably less than half that number.

Is this not like Forza H3? Buying a physical Xbox copy won't get you the PC version?

That's why I posted about the Windows Store. ;)

No worries, though. It would be nice if you could get Windows store games from elsewehere, especially the Xbox Play Anywhere ones, but I understand why Microsoft want to lock it down. And it's not even like I have an Xbox I could put the disc version in to activate it or whatever evem if they did let you link physical copies. I'm just glad this seems to be a much better optimised game than Forza was. The demo for that was pretty catastrophic to play.

Is there a PC demo for Gears Of War 4? I tried one of the Forza demos on my PC and it was unplayable. That left me thinking my PC was too gooseberry fool for games, but everything I've tried since has been playable.

Yes?

No demo, but I've heard great things about the optimization, and if the potato masher can play it...

Yeah, that's really strawberry floating annoying. As are the unskippable intro logos. Is there a way to turn those off in Windows App programs? I assume not.

I ran the benchmarking tool on this, and it's really good to play around with, but I've found it doesn't do a great job of representing the game. I could run it on Ultra at 30fps, but even then some of the textures looked really muddy and low-res. In game, it all looks much more impressive. It's really odd, like the benchmarking scene is being run in a section where the textures are just a bit shitty. Anyway, I bumped it to medium, and it runs great, and looks more than good enough. The difference from medium to ultra doesn't seem huge, but the visual quality dives off a cliff if you put it to low.

Now for the gameplay. As someone who's new to Gears, I'm struggling to get a feel for it. I tried with a 360 pad, and K+M, and neither really feels good when it comes to aiming. Everything feels a bit sluggish and heavy, although I suspect that's intentional, as it seems to fit the animations. I also started it on Hardcore difficulty "the way it's meant to be played", but as you can get picked up by squadmates every time you die, it's not much of a challenge. I need to spend a lot more time with the campaign, and I don't really know what I'm supposed to take away from the prologue, either, so I think I probably ought to read up on the back story of the previous three.

I saw a gameplay montage of the prologue - looks like it's more a run through some of the series' greatest hits as seen by minor characters and a brief introduction to the history of the world for newbies.

It's essentially the tutorial that Gears games usually start with.

Really enjoying this so far, I think my only real complaint is that you can't pause cut-scenes, which is something I always hate in games.

Hello Gears fans!

The time has come for us to run a special test weekend event to trial Crossplay Versus in Gears of War 4. This test is being conducted to evaluate the potential of a more permanent Crossplay solution in the future to allow Windows 10 and Xbox One gamers to play together in Versus outside of Private Matches.

Crossplay is divisive in any Versus experience, and Gears of War 4 is no different. From the beginning, we stated our intention to keep both platforms separate in non-cooperative game modes in order to preserve competitive balance. Conserving a fair, competitive environment remains a top priority for us.

The purpose of this weekend is to give Crossplay a trial run in a public playlist. We care deeply about players on both platforms and we’ve heard you, so our goal is to use this event to bring in a ton of data and listen to feedback from players on both platforms to examine the results.

What comes next after this hasn’t been decided – this weekend is an incredibly important first step in this process. Once we use the combination of our data and your feedback together, we’ll be able to make an informed next step (or not as the case may be). The key thing we want to stress is that we won’t be making any surprise changes all of a sudden based on this weekend.

We need as many of you to participate as possible to make this a truly effective test. As a thank you for participating, we’ve increased the win / loss XP for match completion and allow squads of up to 5 players into this Social style playlist. Some of you may play this weekend and never match with another PC gamer. Others will. Regardless, we’d truly appreciate your feedback.

The settings for this test are as follows:

Playlist Settings
PC and Xbox players can matchmake together in this special Versus Playlist from Friday December 2nd - Monday December 5th.

Playlist Type: Social
Modes: Team Deathmatch, Dodgeball, King of the Hill
Maps: All (including Checkout and Dry Dock)
Win XP: 1500 (up from 600)
Loss XP: 750 (up from 100)
Maximum Squad Size: 5

Please do let us know your feedback by posting in this thread. Please tell us the Platform you play on and how you felt about the gameplay experience if you knowingly played with players on another platform.

Even if you haven’t been in a match in Crossplay, we still want to hear your voice. Let us know your concerns or hopes for Crossplay Versus in this thread along with which platform you primarily play on.

Thank you in advance for your feedback and time to help us perform this special test.

December Brings New Maps, Features, Content and Deals for Gears of War 4

The march of new content for Gears of War fans continues this December with the second major update for Gears of War 4! Arriving on December 6, this update adds extra value for Season Pass holders and includes two brand new maps, “Gearsmas” goodies plus a whole host of fixes and improvements. And for anyone that hasn’t picked up the game yet, it’s 33% off from December 1 to December 28!

Brand New Maps
Following the release of fan-favorite maps Checkout and Drydock last month, two brand new battlegrounds will arrive with the December Update.

Speyer

Evacuated long ago, this lonely district of Speyer is a still image of pre-Locust War life. The battle for the sanctuary is a close quarters affair, but teams looking to control the sprawling academy will need to do so together. Speyer’s opulent interiors and quaint plazas are best suited to longer range engagements

Glory

A monument of military might, this COG battery was used only against the most strategic targets to maintain its secrecy. The defensibility of this fortress can be used to your advantage if captured, which includes a powerful mounted turret that can suppress the courtyard below.

Both maps will be added to public playlists starting December 13. As we say hello to Glory and Speyer, we say goodbye (for now) to Gridlock and Relic. As a reminder, all maps in Gears of War 4 are added to playlists for free, with maps rotating in and out of public playlists. For non-Season Pass holders that want to keep playing maps no longer in rotation, individual maps can be purchased in the Gears of War store.

Updates and Improvements

Since launch, we’ve listened closely to fan feedback to help guide our development of updates and improvements. This latest update includes several highly requested improvements along with some new features including:

A Daily Rewards system

Improved visual feedback for damage dealt with the Gnasher

Vertical Split-Screen for Windows 10 players

Improvements to footstep audio balance, audio/video settings

A whole lot more!
We’ll be detailing the full map rotation changes and Title Update notes this Friday on GearsofWar.com.

Our team continues to work on additional important features to improve the online experience for future updates, including a pre-game lobby for Core and Competitive as well as a number of punitive tools to discourage or prevent quitting. Thank you for all your feedback – please keep it coming!

Bonus Credits and XP for Season Pass Holders

With this update, Season Pass holders will earn additional XP and Credit rewards when playing the Developer Playlist during the week it’s available. Season Pass holders will continue to get early access to new maps (December 6 for Speyer and Glory), and have access to all DLC maps permanently for use in Versus and Horde Private Matches. We’re continuing to look at adding even more benefits and value for our Season Pass holders in the future.
