2) How o you do the retro lancer charge? i missed the prompt when i first picked it up
3) how do you do the grenade launcer on JDs lancer? i missed that prompt too.

2 - RB should be the one to hold down to charge at someone and for 3 aim and hold RB so the laser appears.

Like I say the last time I played Gears was the second game and so far almost nothing has changed. Even the animations are exactly the same. Have a feeling things might start switching up from heron out though.

Saying all that the PC port is indeed strawberry floating excellent. Running it at 1440p Ultra settings and getting a consistent 60fps on my 1070 which is remarkable.

Make sure you download the high texture pack from within the video settings in game if your playing via Game Pass or download from Steam if bought from there.

Yes! I've got it downloaded now, interested to see the difference it makes.

You can just quit to the main menu and start the campaign you know..

Ha! I had no idea. Felt so tired and just put it in rest mode to pick up another time :fp:

Ultimate Edition knocks Fortnite off its No 1 spot in the UK (& US etc) for the first time since Summer 2018. Even Red Dead 2 couldn't do that, Game Pass Ultimate doing work.

So I'm a fair way into Act 2 and yeah, they're trying some new stuff out. I have the same issues with the skiff sections as I did with God of War's lake section; although allowing exploration and a sense of discovery it slows the game's pacing to a crawl. It's still refreshing though, and I really liked the downtime at the start of the act as well.

IGN - 9 (Multiplayer)

Gears 5’s veritable horde of multiplayer modes is the best package the series has delivered yet. The excitement of welcome additions like the new chaotic Arcade Versus and the unpredictable Escape maps mixes with timeless classic thrills like getting awesome Gnasher kills to take out enemy leaders in Versus and claiming close victories in Horde. It all refines and expands upon the series’ already diverse range of ways to play. And while there's a good level of depth to Gears 5's combat, even if you choose not to indulge fully in it you and your friends can still have a great time anyway.

Eurogamer - Recommended

Mixed multiplayer and a depressing grind can't dim the light of a superb new Gears campaign.

Had time for 1 game of Horde with 2 randoms and 2 AI last night. It was on the Museum themed level (Exhibit?).

We died on wave 20. On Intermediate level. :fp:

I got grabbed by something which dragged me away and ripped my head off. Niiiiice.

Seems like my collectibles achievement has stopped tracking as a result of this :?

Still good excuse to not go after the games more ridiculously grindy achievements if I can’t 100% the game I guess.

Yeah, similar thing happened to me and my friend last night. I had 21, picked up a stuffed horse and when I went to inspect it I was down to 18. This was in game, not sure if the achievement tracking is working :?

We had other glitches, after we died and restarted at the checkpoint I thought I'd glitched out as I couldn't shoot or aim, just a load of noise coming from Jack/Dave. So we restarted. Same thing. Turns out it had changed my control scheme at the first reload, I only found out because I went on a suicide run and happened to walk over some ammo and it said RT to pick up.

Apart from all that the combat is meaty and I love the new Lancer. Hopefully they'll have some fixes in place by Friday when we get back to it!

Played a couple of online matches and didn’t do too badly. Team won both. I put this down to people not knowing the maps yet. A week from now I’ll be nowhere.

Had one glitch where it didn’t do the match-end results, and the next match constantly showed the previous scoreboard. And the verifying process before the match seems to take a very long time. Ping between 30 and 60. Overall, OK.

That was the sire. It says to press B but i dont think that works. Ive asked the qestion on the official gears forums, and the answer for is that you need a team mate to free you.

I dont think this Horde has hit with the playerbase.
1) the game forces you to play a role
2) no duplicate role / players (I suppose Kait/Emile, Del/Kat, and Marcus/Sarah Conner).
3) is there only about 6 maps? (training, snow, desert, bunker, asylum, museum ?)
4) The horde maps are trickier to "set up base", they might be OK for multiplayer, but they seem a but small and "round" for horde.
5) Severe Lack of ammo / bullet sponge enemies (or is lag alot more prevalent in this game - so im just missing my shots?)
6) 7 skill levels really split the base. Many games dont last that long before half the other players have quit.
7) Embar and Overkill sem to have been severly nerfed.
8) The skill cards seem to be a bit meh, and are behind a grindy time sink. You can buy upgrades with cash, but the better ones are insanely expensive.
using power in game, you can either keep it yourself to get perks, or put it in the fabricator for fortifications. Its brought in a new dimension of greed to the game.

But other that that, ime enjying the new horde.

Mine has caught up now on the campaign so hopefully you should be alright, although it's not back counted my Arcade multiplayer wins on the achievement tracker or unlocking the achievement for me placing in ranked so might have to do another playlist.

Should hopefully get a bit more time for the MP once I've got the last few levels on the Apex battle pass done. Not touched Horde yet might have to have a look at the weekend.

Managed 2 games of Horde, 1 Escape and about 30 mins of campaign last night.

Horde is fun, but I'd forgotten how long it takes to play. First game I thought I'd try it in insane with randoms. We all died on Wave 2! :slol:

2nd game was with 3 randoms and 1 AI on Beginner (I want to learn the maps first ok?). Started around 11.15pm. At 2.20am I had to switch it off to go to bed and we'd only just completed wave 35! I was 2nd highest scorer on the team and seemingly managed to keep all my XP even though I quit which was surprising. Only at level 9 now.

Well that's why they had server problems then.

Although I remain unconvinced, Ultimate Game Pass is all good while it is £1 for months (in some cases years) on end, when it is £12 a month it will be a different story.

I think they should introduce an optional shorter version of Horde. Having to set aside so much time is often impossible. Still have the full 50-level experience, but add a “Horde condensed” of 20 levels that gives out more resources but ramps up faster so it’s still a challenge, but with the satisfaction of completing it without being a huge time sink.

Is Escape easy to pick up? I’m going to give it a try today, but don’t want to waste teammates’ time in getting to grips with it.

They did do that in Gears 4 didn't they? Horde Lite? Sure they did.

Odd it's been stripped out as like you say it is useful for those that don't have 4 hours to spare.

I'd not worry about Escape it's a new mode in a new game sure everyone's getting to grips with it.

That’s true about Escape. I’m way too self-conscious. I should just dive in.

I barely touched 4, so didn’t know about Horde Lite. Yes, strange they left it out. Maybe nobody played it. Hopefully they’ll add it later.

I think Escape is the current "don't have time for Horde" mode at the moment. Hopefully they introduce a shorter version though.
