Does voice chat not work in this?

I've played a few games on xbox but I really don't like playing these sorts of games without communication and I can't hear anyone and nobody replies when I just ask for any response to if they can hear me. There's not even a little icon that pop's up on the menu that flashes when you do say something like in most games.

Is anyone on here playing this as I'd like to play but voice chat doesn't work at all and I can't play these types of games without communication as I like to play a support role.

Has anyone had voice chat working at all with randoms?

Right.
After about 15 games I heard exactly 1 person with a mic and he didn't want to talk so communication in this online shooter is effectively impossible .
I can't even tell if my mic is working as there's no visual cue on the score screen like all other games so that helps .

All in all a strawberry floating disaster for me as for some reason I quite like to have co-ordination with at least 1 person on my team as I find it helps and if I wanted to play a single player I'd play one.

Was in a game earlier with someone who must have been a streamer and could see the icon whenever they spoke on the score screen. Pointless anyway because everyone wanders off to do their own thing and never seen to work as a team.

I don't get any indication at all when I'm talking I have no idea why as I've tried the settings menu and turning up the mic volume.

Rumour Gears 5 will feature a Halo Reach Character Pack.

Cross-buy informations:

If you are planning to purchase either version of Gears 5 via the Windows Store, you will also get the same version of the game to play on Xbox One (and vice versa). Any purchases you make via Windows Store will also carry to your Xbox version of the game.

Please note that purchasing via Steam is not part of the crossbuy platform. Purchases via Windows Store will not include a Steam copy of the game, and Steam purchasers will not get access to the game on Xbox One or Windows Store.

Cross-play:

Gears 5 supports Crossplay across Xbox One and PC for Campaign Co-Op, Versus, Horde and Escape.
Ranked play also supports Crossplay, though players on console will have the option to disable cross-platform ranked play should they choose to do so.

This is out in just over 2 weeks, seems to be huge in terms of online modes and features.

So if I want to play a social Versus game I don't have the option to turn the mouse and keyboard brigade off.
