EA is laying off 350 staff.

Push Square wrote:EA is laying off an eye-watering 350 people in its marketing, publishing, and analytics departments. Kotaku managed to obtain an internal email from marketing chief Chris Bruzzo, in which he said that the staffing adjustments were designed to improve the publisher’s customer support, and optimise its global strategies.

We have a vision to be the World’s Greatest Games Company,” he wrote in the email sent to employees. “If we’re honest with ourselves, we’re not there right now. We have work to do with our games, our player relationships, and our business.” He added that “teams are already taking action to ensure we are creating higher-quality games and live services”.

In a statement to Kotaku, the organisation said of the redundancies: “These are important but very hard decisions, and we do not take them lightly. We are friends and colleagues at EA, we appreciate and value everyone’s contributions, and we are doing everything we can to ensure we are looking after our people to help them through this period to find their next opportunity.”

Recently I have been saying these two things pretty regularly and I gotta share 'em here.

> Sea of Thieves: the water (ocean) effects are just incredible
> FF XIV: the music is just beautiful

Sea of Thieves is a lovely game, it is amazing fun too. It's just lacking like variety in content. I know a lot is being added, but every single quest you take is either kill tough skeletons, dig the 'X' or solve riddle. I know you can kill a big shark, or skeleton pirate ship or a Kraken, but I don't know what else it has to do, of that makes sense. Don't get me wrong though I'm having a great time playing it with Matt and occasionally Doom & Co.

Just did a long old survey about remakes. I agreed to an NDA but a lot of familiar titles are evidently coming back over the next few years. And they would have to be remakes because they're all pre-2003. Nothing earlier than 1996, but including a very iconic 1996 release. Though they've already done it, so I'm surprised they'd want to do it again.

Super Mario 64?
Resident Evil?
Crash Bandicoot?

Hell even Pokemon Red/Green sort of fits...

I wasn't expecting so many possibilities given those restrictions

...
Why?

The auto-renewal feature isn't the problem. The problem is the online being gated to a subscription.

There's been problems with auto-renewal being on by default so I'd definitely say that's a problem.

Well... Okay, auto-renewal being on by default can be considered an unlawful thing, especially since I don't think it actually asks you once you sign up whether you want to be on an auto-renewal. In that case it would certainly be a higher priority. Though I still think online being gated to a subscription should be next under the radar.

Even if it just leads to very minor adjustments to these services, anything that ultimately makes them fairer to use has to be a good thing, so more power to them.

Yeah I got strawberry floated over by Sony because I didn't realise it put me on auto renewal when I added 12 month of plus back then, I did manage to cancel it but they just added money to the wallet instead of my bank account.

It's gooseberry fool, it shouldn't be ticked automatically after each time you renew.

PSN not a service I feel comfortable storing card details on either, even with 2 stage authentication enabled.

Happened to me after they put PSN up to £50 per year. Funny that.

It’s only an issue if you are a twit that doesn’t read the message that says “this will auto renew” or reads it does and does sod all.

Refunds are an issue, if you buy a game and it’s gooseberry fool you should be able to return it by Xbox doesn’t let you it’s really bloody annoying.

I had auto renew turned off (first thing I did after the last time I renewed my PSN sub) and it still auto renewed :simper:

That’s a different thing then isn’t it.

There 2 groups:

1. You where it was disabled but still did it, that’s a PlayStation or whoever issue and a gooseberry fool system

2. Morons that don’t read messages than moan that the thing they ignored happens.

It'd be cool if the platform owners asked '"Do you want automatic subscription renewal (£49.99) switched on Yes/No ?" when subscribing, rather than turning it on automatically.

yes but Errkal dont you see that both people are hurt by an auto-renewal?
it shouldnt auto-renew unless you explicitly set it to do so. its not like your water supply or something: if you turn on your ps4 and your PSN sub has expired you can just buy a new one.
