The Hotline Miami soundtrack is just sensational. I first heard it whilst watching Jazzem stream the game a few months ago, and yesterday I was reminded of how great it is when Mafro streamed.

I'm not cool enough to know any of the tracks or groups but, man, it sounds good.

One of the best gaming soundtracks, I'd go that far

I really need to give the Hotline Miami games a go, I think I've had them for a while thanks to some bundle or sale but have just never got around to playing them!

I absolutely adore the first game, the second was a big disappointment and made me question if they actual knew what made the first game so good. The Hotline Miami crossover level in Travis Strikes Again was a better sequel imo!

You should definitely play the first.

I really liked the sequel. It was self indulgent as strawberry float but worked just as well as it's originator and the soundtrack (whisper it) was better than the first.

I agree the soundtrack is excellent. I don't agree that it works just as well, it has an over-reliance on gun play and the larger rooms lead to enemies and bullets coming in from off-screen. It's a terrible design choice. The first game was all about bursting into rooms and taking everyone out with a perfectly executed and lightning quick combination of guns and brutal melee. In the second I was kicking doors down blind because I couldn't even see the other side of the room and then strafing around in prolonged firefights. That's not what I wanted at all.

Interesting - I understand that it's not the longest of experiences? I'm definitely going to give it a go soon I think!

I just sort of rolled with those decisions. I didn't agree with locking each run in to certain playstyles either but they worked in their own way. I actually enjoyed the story too, or the arc of it at least. The ending was genuinely surprising, if a little unearned.

It’s manufactured by Teenage Engineering and I’m such a fanboy of theirs, I own two of their synths.

This is a 100% guaranteed buy for me.

If anyone thinks this device is expensive you should see the new price of their flagship device, the OP-1 :slol:

So if nothing else it will at least be a well made piece of tech.

OP-1 is a solid device, absolutely. OP-Z?

Hmmm.

You haven't by any chance seen any of my brother Ally Mobbs stuff on YouTube? He mods teenage engineering stuff and uses them a lot in his albums, last month he had an interview with ableton and various nods from teenage engineering over the years as he gets invited to conventions etc. He'll probably want this, I had no idea they were connected.

At the moment working on an unknown ps4 game in Kyoto as a sound designer, so it'll be interesting to see what that is.

Anyway he's worth following on YouTube, on Instagram I think it's @allythemobbs and @gohantapes

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Looks interesting but the religious themes and grotesque violence isn't for me.

That looks pretty cool. I'll keep an eye on it.

Bought Picross 3D 2 for 6 quid. We'll see what state it comes in.

It's actually all done by one guy, the soundtrack and his other tracks are on Spotify:

Or just search for M|O|O|N if you do not use Spotify.

Hang on, there's definitely more than one artist on the Hotline Soundtrack. Here's a Perturbator track for example;

According to this there were 9 different bands/artists involved and most songs were licenced by the devs rather than made for the game.

Well gooseberry fool, I only played a couple of levels and they were both M|O|O|N tracks, and I thought I'd read that he did the whole OST for the first one. Consider me schooled.

I obviously need to listed to more of the OST. Perturbator is a great artist.

M|O|O|N contributed quite heavily to the soundtrack of both games, but guys like Perturbator and Magic Sword were definitely involved in them too. The second one has a better soundtrack IMO, with a more varied list of contributors too.

If you like Hotline: Miami's soundtracks, I'd recommend looking at some of the artists on there a bit further; Perturbator specifically is bloody brilliant, but Magic Sword, M|O|O|N and Carpenter Brut are all great too. Mega Drive, Blood Orange, or for a little more mainstream appeal John Carpenter(yes, that John Carpenter), Com Truise or Tycho are all pretty good too. :D
