I will probably get a 3080 tbh depending on reviews and benchmarks. I can do with the extra horsepower for flight sims, I am just hoping evga do a 20GB version.

What's the price leak for the 3080? I'm just hoping the choice I made in a 650W power supply seven years ago holds up. :dread:

320-350W and about £1.2-1.5k is the current range being talked about for the 3080/3090 :dread:

What the strawberry float? Wouldn't that be near twice the price of the 2080 launch price?

The Zotac 3080 is $800, the 3090 is $1500. We find out tomorrow what the founders cards are.

Really? Huh, maybe I was only reading about the 3090.

Edit: Lol, that was a quick edit

I can see the founders being more expensive, probably not far off the higher end numbers.

Sounds filthy somehow.

strawberry float That!!

I only have a Quadro P5000 on my Shadow PC so dont have anything close to the same power, but thats insane costs and I honestly can't imagine why anyone would want to drop that much on a graphics card.

Not for gaming anyway, my brother used to work for a medical imaging company and they used dual 1080 Titans in their workstations, purely for the processing speed.

Yeah that sort of thing fair play, but for in a home it’s a pointless waste of money.

Morning all, looking for some advice. My current PC spec is below:

Intel Xeon E5-1620 @3.6GHZ https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E5-1620+%40+3.60GHz&id=1210
16GB Ram (DDR3-1333Mhz)
GTX 1080 (8GB)

Over recent months, it's really started to show it's age, and am currently struggling to get a good 60FPS @ 1440.

I'm not sure if it's my CPU that is letting me down, or the GTX1080 is just not up to the task anymore. I'm aware Nvidia are about to release some new cards.

My question is If I was to spend approx £700 on a new Machine, maybe a Ryzen 7 3700 and 32GB DDR4 RAM, but stick with my old GTX1080 do you think I will see a good improvement? Or should I wait and then upgrade the whole lot to a new system and new GFX card?

Not sure if there are any sites I could use to test out a potential spec/performance?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Do you really need 32GB of RAM?

The 1080 is still considered a pretty good card. What games are you struggling to hit 1440@60 on? Could it be an overheating issue rather than the hardware not being powerful enough?

I think 16 GB of RAM would be fine for gaming. 32 GB would be more if you wanted to do rendering or editing, etc.

I have 32gb of ram, and it really comes in to it's own with my music and video stuff. Design stuff too. For gaming I think the only time I've seen it listed as a nice to have is with the new flight simulator.

According to PC gamers GPU matrix you should still get 60+ FPS on average at 1440p Ultra, even in modern games, with a 1080. Looking at your CPU in some benchmarks it seems that it might be your bottle neck. I certainly wouldn't jump straight into updating your GPU right away, but the CPU+Mobo+RAM would be a good start. You can always update your GPU in a few months if you really need to, and the first few months of a release are always difficult to pick up a new GPU anyway.

With the RAM if it's only gaming the only thing that sticks out to me needing more that 16GB is something like a heavily modified version of Cities Skylines. Custom assets eat mountains of the stuff.

You should be able to use CPU-Z or a similar tool to monitor CPU usage whilst running games and then look at that data to determine what element of your system is the bottleneck - it could be a number of things but your CPU and GPU are the main things to look at usage wise (memory speed can also be a factor - your CPU may not be operating at full capacity with older RAM in play)

Thanks all, that's all really helpfull :D

MS Flight simulator is one of the games I'm struggling with, but there are a few others that seem to start to labour at 1440p with high settings on.

Will check out that CPU-Z app to see if my Processor is my weak point.

Will also absolutly test the Temperature as well as am convinced it is running hot most of the time (my office is always about 5-10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house and think the PC must be the culprit!)

Might stick with 16GB for the moment to keep the costs down.

Thanks all, owe you all a pint. :toot:

There is a glut of memory out there so the prices should be going down soon and the recommends fo FS2020 is 32 so may be worth it longer term
