Anyone know what this is?



Booted my laptop up today to be greeted with these weird green lines floating about the place. It won't do anything.

My not in any way professional option is that the display cable is borked.

Could be the video card. Can you test with an external monitor?

Yeah test an external screen (TV or something via HDMI or VGA ) if that works it is either the screen is strawberry floated or the cable I would bet the screen as that's more likely. However you should be able to take the casing off to check the cable is seated nicely.

That means your graphics card is all good (woop) which means it "should" be repairable (depending on ability).

If you feel confident you should be able to remove the casing to find where the ribbon cable goes from the screen to the motherboard and check it is secure, there will be videos online no doubt on how to do it all. if it is secure you will need dismantle the screen and see if it is detachable from the screen itself and if it is replace the cable (should be able to get one eBay) if that works boo ya, if not it is the actual screen panel that needs replacing these are buyable on eBay and if you have managed to check the cable and everything else well you can do that just fine.

You could ignore the cable and go right for the screen odds are its the panel it usually is and they tend to come with cables and that anyway.

fair play, most independent computer shops should be able to sort you out. Hell check the warranty if it isn't too old it may still be covered.

Attach the TV to the laptop. GR saves the day again.

My turn to have display woes!

I have an HDTV as my main monitor connected through HDMI, and an old LCD monitor as a second screen connected through a VGA with a DVI adapter. GPU is a 1050Ti.

This has all worked perfectly for a good few months. For the past month or so, however, the VGA screen won't display a Windows desktop. Two monitors show up in Display Settings, but it says the second one isn't active. When I try and get it to work, the monitor displays an error message ("Change display to 1366x768 60Hz"). The odd thing is this - I know the screen and cable work, because when I turn the PC on I get the BIOS loading screen displayed perfectly on the second monitor (and not the first) before it goes to standby!

Having the extra screen space is really useful for some regular work I need to do from home, and I'm quite keen on operating a Civ/World Cup combo the rest of the time!

Any thoughts?

The internet doesnt have wires, look heres the picture

I didn't look that hard, but the cheapest desktop dell offers has 8GB DDR3 for not far off the price of the Argos one, also wireless keyboard and mouse thrown in.

Ugh DDR3? What year is this?! Peasant level computing, GDDR5 all the way or GTFO.

Seriously though that's not a bad deal for the price and if it's anything like the Dell's we have at work then it should be pretty well put together.
