Indeed. You can pick up a similar monitor from ASUS (VG27AQ) that is 'G-Sync Compatible'. Haven't used mine in anger yet though.

I've got a Dell S2716DG which is a gsync one. It's bloody lovely. I did originally get an asus one but it was faulty so I sent it back and bought a higher resolution one.

I keep seeing that the RTX 30xx series is expected in a few months and as I'm still using a Founders Edition 1080, I'm expecting quite a jump given reports that the 3080Ti will offer a 40% performance boost over a 2080Ti. I've just bought a 144hz, 1440 ultrawide, so I'm eagerly awaiting an upgrade.

Anyone else looking at getting a 30xx card when they're out?

Probably but I'm going to wait a while to make sure they actually work first after what happened with some of the 20xx series cards.

The 20xx series completely passed me by, what was the issue?

I might look at a 3070 depending on the price but it might hopefully be worth also considering whatever AMD come out with. I've had this GTX 1060 for about three and a half years and wouldn't mind an upgrade.

Thinking back, it might have been mainly the 2080Ti cards, but a decent chunk of users were reporting artifacting from their cards.

I'm on a 780Ti so thinking I'll need to upgrade for cyberpunk.

I'm hoping for about 2070 super performance (essentially solid 60 FPS on ultra for 1440p across the board + good enough for VR) for less than £300, but would also rather go for Nvidia for ray tracing. Considering you can get a 5700XT for £345 things might get competitive, but I'm not holding my breath.

as has been suggest to me, just wait for a few months for the new 30xx cards - might see a drop in price for some of the current RTX ones.

I held off on a GPU upgrade when I built a new PC last year so hopefully the RTX3000 series or RDNA2 cards will offer a nice upgrade over my still quite adequate 1070.

If Nvidia pull their usual bollocks and go "we're just keeping all our old cards the same price and making the news ones more expensive, derp" I may dump them for AMD same as I did Intel.

Mine is a £120 24" IPS Iiyama one that I've had nearly 5 years.

I can't see the point in anything bigger.

Anyone got experience with chromebooks?

my son is starting secondary school in september and wants a chromebook for his school work. Firstly is a chromebook a good idea or would a windows laptop be better. He likes the idea of a chromebook as they were using them at his primary school. I'm not that knowledgeable on them, is there going to be any constraints with them that would prevent him doing school work on them. I'm aware that google docs is pretty compatible with office and you can get office on them anyway.

If you want an overpriced, underspecced laptop with a miniscule amount of storage then yes get a chromebook.

A much higher spec Windows laptop can be had for roughly the same price and all the google apps are accessed via web browser anyway so there's very little need for a gooseberry fool tier Google branded machine with a closed ecosystem which keeps track of everything you do on it to exist.

Don't buy into Googles marketing bollocks, Chromebooks are gooseberry fool.

Thanks. I think he wants one as he’s familiar with them from school.

Chrome OS is fast and decent IF you are fine with only using the a Google world and cloud storage.

It is effectively a chrome browser so if it works in Chrome it works on chrome books.

They are lower spec because they don’t need to be higher spec, also not all are over priced there are some good deals.

Windows will give a lot more options and functionality that may come in useful, primary may be fine for a chrome book but secondary I would have though would need more apps or “stuff” so it may be a bit limiting.

Just install Chrome on a Windows PC instead then.

I personally can't stand Chrome, it just feels like an inferior version of Firefox with a weird layout.

If all you do is chrome and maybe an Android app or two ChromeOS would be better, it’s blindingly fast because it doesn’t have heaps of stuff running “just in case you might want it” like windows.

Most of he time Windows will be the better option, but if all your going to do it web, google docs, YouTube and Netflix then ChromeOS will be a much much more user friendly and smooth experience.
