You probably need new everything, apart from case and PSU (although probably a new one of those too if you want to be safe). Otherwise you are just going to end up bottle necking your newer components.

GTX 1050
R5 1500X
ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard
8GB DDR4

Are all of these compatible and would i need a new PSU?

Also, what would be behind the previously mentioned vacuum noise?

Could be worth dropping a tenner more and going for the 1600X for the additional cores and threads, also seems to be cheaper than the 1600 on Amazon too.

I've got an old 2GB GTX 770 lying about you could have too.

I wouldn't bother with first gen Ryzen at this point. R5 2600 is only about £150. The superior memory support and dynamic overclocking make it easily worth the small premium over the last gen chip.

It heavily depends the type of editing you're going to be doing, the resolution you want to render it in and the time you've got to do it in.

If you don't have enough money to buy a whole new system then up your RAM to at least 8GB but 16GB would be better and also get a GPU with as much VRAM as you can afford.

I don't understand the latter paragraph but in terms of editing it's not going to anything major. 720p quality.

This is why I need help, I just don't understand.

I could probably budget £500 for these four items but they need to be compatible with one another and my PSU. I'm fully open to suggestion but I need it explained in simple terms why X is better than Y.

Uh, right, if you are using the newer 2000 Ryzen they are only guaranteed to work with the newer chipsets launched along side them like B450. Technically they are backwards compatible with older boards like B350 but that depends on the manufacturer updating the BIOS so its not guaranteed.

This is kind of confusing but, hey, it's better than what Intel have been doing until recently and giving each new generation of CPU completely new sockets and making it impossible to swap out an older CPU for a newer one without getting a completely new board. A few headaches around backwards compatibility is better than having no backwards compatibility at all.

Get 2 x 4 GB rather than 1 x 8 GB. It'll be slightly more expensive but you'll get better performance from a dual channel rather single channel setup. And if you can stretch the cost, Ryzen processors perform better with higher frequency RAM modules but worth checking a few reviews to see if the performance improvement is worth the cost for you.

This is the one to go for I think. The price difference between 2400 MHz and 3000 MHz is £5 or so but you'll be paying an extra £20 again to get 3200 MHz.

I'm somewhat out of touch with the latest views on PC performance (we were still on DDR3 when I was last looking at such things!) but last time I was paying more attention to these things the consensus was that chasing faster RAM clocks didn't actually gain you much in real world scenarios?

Ryzen seems particularly sensitive to RAM speed and timings due to the infinity fabric used to connect the clusters of cores on the CPU, some workloads can see close to 10% performance gains from what I've heard. Will be interesting to see how the 7nm Zen 2 fares with the rumoured core counts.

Cheapest place for a windows 10 key? Getting a laptop next week or so, doesn't come with windows as it's saving me around £80 not getting it...

Yeah this. Got one for about a fiver a few months ago. Just make sure it's the correct key for the version you have installed e.g. Windows 10 Home.

I would be pretty skeptical about buying a software license of eBay.
