My local CEX was selling it for £32 and I thought about getting that one, but I'm glad I didn't now.

Picked up this TV for £10 (Including stand) off Gumtree a few days ago and older stuff looks so much nicer on it than an HDTV.

Gonna get all the shelving I need for my games room in the next week or so and this was step one of that.

Gave me an excuse to set up the Saturn for the first time in years as well. :D

Should hopefully get my Master System II through soon as well.

My latest retro purchases were a cart only NES copy of snake rattle n roll for £5

And a PS1 disc only copy of Alundra 2 for £3.50

Nice. Looks relatively contemporary as well with that black bezel.

Some 4:3 broadcast monitors look nice too with glass black tint panels on the front to enhance blacks and diffuse bloom. I dragged one out of a skip at uni but never remembered to pick it up after I finished.

I really recommend accommodating any kind of CRT for short spurts of retro gaming. Mine is only 9 inch but when you think about it that's the same size as looking at something like a gba and hud elements are a reasonable size.

That sounds like a great deal, Cheeky - and it looks great in your room! Most folk don't want CRT screens but, for retro gaming, they're still top. I have a neat 15" Sony CRT but - but - the silver/grey chassis has yellowed now :( . It's up in my loft as I just don't have any space to set it up. Maybe one day!

the crt I have is huge, I wish there was a perfect flat screen tv for retro gaming as I really could do with less bulk in my vedroom.

Yeah it was a great wee deal. Nearly killed myself moving it though. You forget just how heavy CRT TVs are.

Definitely worth getting if you have space though. Most people aren't looking for much for them so there are deals to be had. This was £10 for a 26in wide-screen Sony Wega with the stand. It's in great condition too. The remote was broken but I got a brand new one off eBay for about £3.50.

All I need to do now is source RGB Scart connectors for all my systems so I can get the best picture from them.

For cables the best place to get them from is https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/ - awesome quality, I have them on all my systems and the picture is great, I use their own version but I've heard the packapunch ones they sell are even better (but they're pretty expensive if you're buying for multiple systems).

I had to abandon my old CRT setup when I moved so I've been sending the signal for all my retro systems through the OSSC to my computer monitor and I've got to say they look great, with scanlines turned on I think they look every bit as good as on a CRT and there's no lag added either with it being a PC monitor rather than a TV. If only there was a solution for light gun games...

Added a new retro system to my setup tonight, an original GBA (In Purple, to match my Gamecube) modded with an AGS-101 screen from the later models of the GBA SP. I already have three GBA's, an original (clear blue) and silver GBA SP (the early model with the inferior screen) and a GBA Micro. The Micro screen is amazing but the machine is just too small and no support for original Game Boy Games is a killer, I've always found the SP to be too cramped as well and the screen has developed a problem over time (coloured lines). Always found the original GBA was the most comfortable so with the superior screen I'm hoping I'll have the ultimate GBA in my hands :D

Yeah I've been eyeing up cables at a few places. Retrogamingcables was one of them though I get confused by all the different types of RGB sync they talk about. Need to do a little bit more reading on them. But that can wait till I've gotten the shelving and stuff up.

I'd love to get myself a CRT again for my retro consoles, but I don't have the space for one right now. :/

You just need normal RGB. The separate rgb and c-sync/sync cables that break out to male RCA/phono connectors are for broadcast monitors. That won't work with a consumer CRT so just get normal rgb scart from them, looks like any scart (emphasis on looks) but the wiring is different (and more pins in use).

Also bear in mind not all scart sockets on old TVs are wired for RGB so just one might be labeled, in which case you'd need a good switch to avoid signal loss.

Yeah I did think it probably didn't make much difference which "sync" type I went for. I've got one RGB Scart socket at the back of the TV so that's fine for that, though I might get a switcher that's wired for RGB as well. To be honest the Saturn looks surprisingly good through the RF, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the RGB brings to the table when I get one.

I'm expecting my Master System II and GBA to arrive today as well, and I've got a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B en route as well. I'm very much considering RGB modding the Master System when it arrives as well.

Going to order the shelving materials I need today so I'll hopefully have something to show by the end of the week. :D

I've said it before, but I need to do some photos of my rapidly expanding barely-retro ps2 and 360/OG Xbox collection at some point, maybe later this week as i have a day off.

Ace on Burning Rangers too, that's game's really expensive now right? Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed had a lovely track + remix based on it:

Yeah it's around £120ish for one in the same condition as I have. Though Buy It Now prices on eBay are a good £100 higher, so I'm not sure what it's true value would be.

Not bad considering I picked it up for £20 in a game shop about 16/17 years ago.

Really great wee game as well.

I need to get to it at some point. Just like NiGHTS, I became familiar with BR through Sonic Team referencing it in their other games. Transformed ensured that "BURRRRNING RANGERRRS GO!" pops in my head at least once a day now D:

I do have a modded Saturn for 60Hz + imports but sadly don't have the room for a CRT. In an ideal timeline I'd have a framemeister upscaler and that SD card mod someone did a couple of years back

It's got a fantastic anime intro too.

EDIT: I'll be looking into getting a framemeister or an OSSC at some point, but the CRT will do nicely in the meantime.

I tried to do the RGB mod on a Master system 2 along with a 50 to 60hz switch.. The 50 to 60hz switch worked a treat the audio part of the rgb worked but no matter what I did I could never get the blooming picture to output through it, I read a million and one guides etc but it was just being a git.. I finally gave up trying when I got the Master System 1 I had always wanted and a scart cable for that.

Bear in mind there are always different board revisions for consoles.

Cheeky, if you can't justify the outlay for rgb cables or similar for all the consoles, try the composite cables, they are markedly better than the bundled ones and obviously a big step up from RF. They main thing I don't like about RF is the wavy patterns. Some people even argue composite is the correct cable by taste because various pixel effects like false transparency on the megadrive were based on composite interference patterns.
