Yeah, it was developed by Namco. Assault got some mixed reviews; NGC weren't overly impressed with any of the Fox games that were released on the GameCube. The only reason it tends to go for a fair whack is because it's one of those games that was released near the end of the console's lifespan and consequently PAL versions are reasonably uncommon. I've only got 5 games left on my to buy list so perhaps by the end of 2019 I'll be done.

Picked it up pretty cheap probably about 5 years ago now. Is a pretty terrible game though

I watched the Gamesack review of that Mega SG and they loved it.

I'm so envious, Hound - it looks to be fantastic! I've watched Metal Jesus Rocks's review which is useful as he shows graphic and sound comparison between various MD formats.

Ah strawberry float urge to get megadrive out rising.

Not that I can plug it in to anything. Stupid sexy scart lead.

You want a PVM. I have megadrive, SNES, NES, N64, and GameBoy Player / Super GameBoy all plugged into that, on a little shelf next to the HDTV. It's only 9" but I just sit on a lush leather puff for 10 minutes at a time somedays and it really helps with some stress and not having to wait 20 minutes for a game to strawberry floating install or some gooseberry fool.

You can't just get zoned in a game quite the same way with 1 objective and 1 direction to move in these days.

I'm ready to see a pic of your MD1 + Mega CD1 setup... the best-looking system ever :datass: .

This is where my having an ancient 720p TV helps; twin SCART ports 8-) .

That said I love my set also because it has at least one funny mini SCART socket that uses an adapter but can still play DC etc. if I want. And component for Wii/GC games.

A breed of television we will probably never see again.

Man, that setup is a beast! Three sections... three power supplies... loads of cables... it's amazing! You don't often see this "triple Sega" setup and it's a treat when you do :) .

Oh, man, that is just brilliant, JD05! *So* envious! It looks ace and I'd love to get one in the future.

How are you Mega SG guys getting on with the power supply? Do you have to use a converter or something?

Bought this from Argos if anyone is looking for a magical plug thing

Ready to rumble, switched it on, the power light goes from red to blue to white. A nice little touch

To go back to Starfox Assault, I quite liked it. I thought it was a fairly solid third person shooter. I did play it in 2007 so it's probably a little dated now, but it was a genre that didn't really get a lot of exposure on the Cube.

It probably needed more Arwing sections (I think there are maybe three in the entire game?) and the on-foot parts did need some polish. But I did enjoy my time with the game. I wouldn't say it's particularly memorable now that we have all played games of a similar ilk countless times, but it definitely wasn't an affront to the franchise. The controls needed a bit of work from what I remember. Even in space, they were a little bit "light" compared to the N64 game.

There was definitely room for Starfox to be Nintendo's shoot-em up franchise, both in space and with guns on foot, but I think the lukewarm reception to every game since Lylat Wars shows they don't really know what to do with it. Assault wasn't helped by the fact that it was teased early on in the Cube's life, but not released until mid 2005 I think. The 360 released not long after and Assault was already a little antiquated by that point.

Yes it was originally called Starfox Armada and was teased for ages while Dinosaur Planet became Starfox Adventure. It was all a bit filler and basically the same thing happened to Starfox Zero.

So I have a very awesome wife who picks up on, and remembers details from passing conversations we might have, I've been looking out for a spice orange Gamecube for ages. So yesterday she decided to give me a couple of my birthday presents early. I was blown away when she presented me with both a spice orange and platinum Gamecubes! She imported them from Japan, complete with boxes and manuals!

So now I've have a sort out of my shelf and it's rapidly becoming a Cube shrine!I currently own 6 of them...

And while I'm here I may as well give my (also still growing) handheld collection some love!

Wow, that's awesome. I kind of wish I still had a Gamecube to play my GC games on but the Wii suffices.

Just wondering if anyone know any good capture cards for older systems? All the new capture cards are HDMI only.

Haha thanks! Yea I've toyed with the idea of getting a Wii. Would make it much easier and cheaper to get a hdmi adapter so I can stream my cube games but I can't bring myself to do it. I want to play off original hardware. Next payday I'll be buying the GCHD adapter. Not cheap but the best way to bring the cube into the modern age!

I would also be interested in this too! Have had a look around on eBay and Amazon and nothing has seemed to have stood out. They're pretty cheap by the looks of it. No more than £20 but I have no idea of they're any good.

I just watched this Digital Foundry assessment of the Analogue Mega SG. Man, I'm envious of you guys that have got one! The excellent emulation and compatibility is so attractive; I'd love to get one in the future.
