To the right we have boxed copies of Dragon Slayer IV (Known as Legacy of the Wizard in the west) and Gradius, followed by an NES to Famicom convertor, that allows me to play NES games on the Famicom.
Bottom left is my Famicom Everdrive N8 Pro. This is most likely the last everdrive I'll be getting for a while. I've got them for all the systems I really need them for now.

Then finally we have a US NTSC copy of The Legend of Zelda and a Hard case with artwork to store it in.

I love your stuff, it's proper retro. I never had a console before the megadrive (one friend had a nes with only a couple of games) so this is all new and really interesting to me.

I love all this stuff and it's almost as much fun showing them off as it is playing them to be honest.

I thought the whole point of buying retro gear was to show it off to other people, to be honest.

Herzog Zwei doesn’t half have a learning curve to it. Even after the Sega ages tutorial my first game still took 35 minutes to win.

How many people here remember this, from Computer and Video Games Magazine...





Did anyone here ever buy this "undoubtedly good game"?

My mate harped on and on at his dad to buy it for him for his snes while we were out in town one day (I think the game was soemthing daft like £80), he eventually got it for him. We played it for 5 minutes before he realised it was total gooseberry fool, then had to feign joy to his dad when he asked him how it was.

Had a question on my mind recently thanks to Herzog Zwei.
If PvP eSports as we know it today existed in the 16-bit era (namely a 1993-1994 season) what games would be played?
I had a think and realistically I found these were the only games out at that time with enough depth and appeal to work as internationally big PvP eSports games.

Tetris – See: Classic Tetris World Championships.
Puyo Puyo / Mean Bean Machine– Was a massive competitive game in Japan.
Street Fighter II Turbo – People still play this competitively now, the series really hasn't changed much on a fundamental level.
Herzog Zwei – PvP RTS game (arguably invented the RTS genre), a damn good one at that.
NBA Jam – Biggest Sports game by a mile and was action packed.
Mortal Kombat II – Rivaled street fighter in popularity.
Doom - Had deathmatch.

The number of games viable for this would beging to expand from 1994 onwards but 1994 was also the year where games were begging to properly transiton to a new generation (especially on PC).
I know some people would suggest stuff like sensible soccer but I don't know if that game was eSports big.

A new contender is entering the market for N64-to-HDMI products.

PixelFX have developed the N64Digital and say that it will deliver "Crystal clear HDMI video for your Nintendo 64". The product is due to launch in April; full spec and cost TBC.
