The version I use came with a couple of cables that let you use it on systems that output through Component or Composite cables.
I don't believe they sell that specific version anymore though and as far as I can tell every one after that took away the other AV Input, meaning you only have the HDMI input. In which case you would have to get a converter to change it to HDMI as well.
A bit of googling doesn't seem to reveal any alternatives to this version that don't involve getting converters.
EDIT: I will add that if you go with the Game Capture HD, while it will accept the signal for those systems don't expect them to look particularly good. Composite especially looks awful on anything other than a CRT. I also had some issues with my TV not accepting the low-res signal through the HDMI port and had to split it off before it hit the elgato so it would go in through the SCART socket that I had on that TV as well as into the Elgato. This assumes your TV has a SCART socket these days.
Simply put it's getting harder and harder to run old systems through modern TV without spending a lot of money for upscalers, converters and cables.
I'm genuinely starting to look at putting the cash together so I can get a framemeister.
Thanks for that. My research did come to the same conclusions. The My Life In Gaming YouTube channel was a top tier resource also. Image quality isn't great but at the same time I'd rather not use emulation even though it is at the moment the best way to do high video quality retro gaming on the cheap.
While we're on this subject. I was offered a Happuage HD PVR Gaming edition (the old kind that takes component and can't record anything that outputs at 240p) recently for £20. Would it be worth using it to capture stuff like the PS2/Xbox/GC/Wii at 480p & 480i or should I just buy an elgato that comes with the component cable wires?

I've never used one before so I can't speak to how good they are, but in terms of older systems I guess it really depends on what you would be looking to play. If you only plan on looking at PS2/Xbox/GC/Wii then sound like a decent deal, but again I can't say how good it is.

If memory serves me correctly, then the Elgato Game Capture HD did 240p content over s-video and composite. But it has been about 6-years since I last had to use one. But the supplied breakout cable covered pretty much all connection types.
You can use a composite to HDMI upscaler to convert to 720p first, then go into the HD. But not sure how much input lag that would add.

Then have a look on eBay to see how much you can get an Elgato HD for. I used one for about 3-4 years and it worked well enough. The composite upscaler I have worked quite well too. Although stretching a native 4:3 ratio to a 16:9 one for HD isn't perfect. So, something to bear in mind.

So has anyone played Zool... on game boy? I always knew the game existed on various platforms although I only played it briefly a few years ago on PC where it is now abandonware. However I did not know a game boy version existed until this weekend when I saw it boxed.. for £70
I'd actually really like to get it. Weirdly I come to it from having 2 Zool novels as a kid and really liking them, not ever being a fan of the game. As far as I remember the books had no chupa chups in them
Also at the weekend I bought Rayman 2 on dreamcast. I'm quite excited to give it a play as so far I've only played the N64 and PS1 versions, and it's one of the most interesting games I know of for version differences.

I remember playing the Gameboy zool and expecting it to be pants but actually rather enjoying it. I love the fact you come at it from the noevels and not the game, its little stories and bits like that which I think are one of the most awesome things about retros the little stories of how we first found stuff in our lives and our individual experiances of the games and the characters. Not sure if its worth that much though but that parts up to you.

I even remember where I got the books - from a bookshop in freeport fleetwood. Must have read them 5 times. "Cooler than Mario, Smarter than Sonic" always sounded backwards to me

Took a chance on CEX to the tune of £25 there, was enough to get me the following and if they're in bad nick, I'll get them refunded:

So I now need just 99 N64 games to complete the cart collection. Some of them I'm taking my time on, and going for boxed - would quite like about 30-35 genuine good condition CIB games just to go alongside the main collection. Mario Party and Mario Party 3, MK64, Mario Golf for example.* Also need to replace a couple of gooseberry fool condition games I've picked up over the years - F-Zero X, NASCAR '99 and Carmageddon are the biggest offenders.
An updated series of collection photos might be in order when these arrive.

I paid £18 for a cart only pal SNES copy of The Flintstones The Treasure of Sierra Mudrock
Never seen it in the flesh before and wanted to buy it to review it, it's been a long time since I've wrote a new SNES review even if I've made videos for old reviews lately. After having made my Barts Nightmare video Flintstones felt like something I'd like to tackle.

Any recommendations for N64 pad purchases? The original gold pad I have at the moment 'works' but the analogue stick is pretty naff. It seems to have a massive dead zone so small movements around the centre aren't recognised, which is pretty bad in Rogue Squadron where you need to make fairly tight/accurate moves, rather than only being able to lurch all the way in one direction.

Unrelated, I've finally started Operation Super Famicom.
Ordered myself a Super Famicom, RGB SCART cable, UK Power Supply and a CIB copy of Super Mario Kart last night. Plan is to pick up a few nice CIB games (Mostly looking at Yoshi's Island, Street Fighter II Turbo and if I can get a good price Super Metroid) which I'll be looking at when the Glasgow Gaming Market is on next Saturday (9th).
Then, a little further down the line I'll be picking up an SD2SNES cart so I can play my ROMS on the original hardware.

I was actually messing about with my Pi last night. Been tinkering with Blast 16 to see if I can get a comparable experience to my Mega Drive Mini and was pretty successful with it. The only downside is that you need a 6-button pad, but it has all the same features with a slick interface and the bonus of putting Mega CD and 32X Games on as well (Oh and Master System/Game Gear too).

Definitely.
Getting a bit further along in the room as well. Got some of my poster frames up and my dad has measured up the corner where we're going to build in my desk.
Planning on having a three monitor setup (four if you include the long HDMI cable I've run to the TV) and plenty of space for my Rift and HOTAS.
Once that's done and I've got some additional shelves it's going to look gooseberry fool hot.

Not sure I like the design of that pad. I get it's trying to give it a more modern look but something about it...I think the central D-Pad is just weirding me out
