currently playing through super Metroid on the switch, just got all e tanks and am ready to go down to mother brain. never been this far into the game before, shall feel good to finally beat it.

It's my favourite game of all time. I've loved it since launch but I've been playing it pretty solidly for the past couple of years now and it never gets old for me. Always glad to see people getting through it for the first time.

and have just this moment beaten it for the first time, nice clear time of 5 hours 43 minutes. feels good to finally have this game done finally.

I finished it on Wii U and it was marvellous, although I did get stuck around the murky sort of underwater and alien tech areas for a while. Always felt bad about borrowing a mate's SNES with the cart and barely scratching it, I played quite a bit of Illusion of Time instead (which is now quite a rare game, especially as it was boxed an complete). He eventually sold his big box copy of SUper Metroid with the guide, something I could probably never do, but then he had money issues I think.

I can definitely see how it's easy to get stuck in Metroid and just have no idea how to progress. Especially if you drop the game and come back after a while.

For me I just love seeing that progression in my own ability to get through the game. First playthrough probably took me weeks/months as a kid, then came back to it a few years ago on Wii U and did it in about 6 hours or so. Now I've played it so much (Both vanilla and randomizer) that I can get through it in less than 2 hours and I know where I can cut even more time off that. I'm getting to the point though where I really need to start using more advanced techniques and sequence breaks to see significant gains, although there's still a lot of room for improvement in optimising how I move through the game and the order that I do things in. My ultimate goal is to get my time down to either sub 1hr, or top 500 times on speedrun.com, although I'm a long way off that just now and I'd need to really focus on practicing and improving.

I also finished Metroid on the Wii U, I was amazed how much I enjoyed going through it again back then despite having completed it a few times on the SNES. If you really liked it and want more then id recoment trying Hyper Metroid, theres a review of that in my SNES review thread. I remember playing a lot of Illusion of time as well, but I havent seen a boxed copy in the flesh in years, I have a pal and an American cart but both are loose. My friend had a big box copy of Super Metroid and apparently he had lost his cart but kept promising me the big box to put mine in before he moved to America, he promised it me like 300 times but I never did get it, I would assume its still at his mums house or shes thrown it away as he has been gone like 6 years by now, shame if it did end up in a bin. It really makes you wonder how much decent stuff has ended up in bins over the years.

I loved, LOVED Metroid Zero Mission. Was my favourite GBA title, bar Advance Wars.

I still have it, but damn don't get me started on my brother throwing away a bunch of "bits of cardboard" again from my own tiny personal storage in a cupboard instead of, well, storing it and allowing me to make my own such decisions or even just strawberry floating asking me if I wanted them.

He also took furniture "I wasn't using" and a sold a rare vintage guitar amplifier (that works) amongst many other things that took 7 years to get back.

Somehow that managed to skip therapy so I guess I'll leave it there.

Reminds me my brother used a metal pellet gun to shoot holes in the lid of my vintage record player, I feel your pain

Draygon is a bastard. Without the grapple beam you have to fight him normally which is tough. You should be using beams to shoot his glue shots and trying to hit him with Supers when he swoops. But depending on how many etanks you have he can really do some damage.

Edit: Its a fight I'm still trying to get better at myself.

If you can stream then I'd do that. Would be interesting to see how your getting on and compare times.

I actually managed my first Kraid quick kill last week, which was really cool.

Finally completed DKC on the SNES 101% under an hour [0'59] glitchless and warpless, it's always been one of my daft gaming goals but I've been stuck on 1'01 for about 5 years

Thanks, unfortunately not about the recording. I've always fancied getting an Elgato device but I don't think I'd ever stream [seeing myself and hearing my own voice is just too much cringe for me to take ]. It was on the SNES Mini, scary to think I've been playing those games for close to 30 years or so now.

I love DKC and Cranky has a throw away line in the credits saying he completed this in under and hour without losing a life, I was kind of hoping for a little Easter egg after doing that but I didn't notice anything.

Ah that sucks you can't record it. Would have been good to see.

Unrelated but I've got a replacement Dreamcast coming from eBay.

The pace hdmi adapter is brilliant if you don't plan to use the vga one. Also if it's a MIL CD compatible model, you can run burned games with no modding at all ( played would reaver like this earlier in the year).

Has anyone here ever played PS1 golf game "Cyber Tiger"? I've always been curious as to just how bad this apparently is (to this day it holds the distinction of not only being Official PlayStation Magazine's first ever 1/10, but also the lowest score ever dished out to a game from Electronic Arts).
