Kind of retro but on a new system but Metal Slug 3 is bloody good isn't it even now. The Switch is getting so many Neo Geo games it's brilliant and because it's also a portable console the games are great for a quick pick up and play.

I got that on the PS4 when it was on offer. Really strawberry floating hard, I gave up!

In other news, finally got the AV cable for my SNES so last night was spent marvelling at the awesome graphics and gameplay of FIFA International Soccer

Picture quality was fine, I know it will look better when I eventually get a SCART adapter but for the time being it will suffice.

Also picked up my copy of Super Mario Kart from the Post Office today and it's in decent condition, can't wait to have a go this evening

When I played slug 3 in the arcade it was so difficult but thankfully on so soles you can just do the unlimited credits. It reminds me of super probotector. That was tough as hell but completing it was amazing.

I'd have loved to have owned and played Banjo-Tooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day back in the day but they came out rather late in the N64's life and I didn't have the money for them. I don't actually remember seeing Banjo in the shops

I do but for some reason, despite adoring B-K, I never bothered to pick it up. Probably for the best as I'd have only traded it in for peanuts with the rest of our N64 stuff anyway. Did have a rather pristine boxed Paper Mario though.

And Pokémon Stadium... and Pokémon Snap... and Rocket Robot on Wheels... and Jet Force Gemini... and Mystical Ninja... and Mario Tennis... and Ridge Racer 64... and Smash Bros... oh damn and that's not even thinking about some of the GC games I've traded in that have since ballooned in value.

Try not to dwell on it, Dan. I won't let myself think about my Master System collection and Japanese Mega Drive stuff that I sold for peanuts.

Everyone will have a different view but, personally, I never buy or keep games because of their monetary value. I don't care if my N64 titles are worth fifty quid each or fifty pence each; I'll still collect and keep them, because of the fun of finding them and displaying them. Sometimes - occasionally - even playing them .

I've always kept my games. I love having them there to occasionally look at and sometimes even play. It's the whole package as well, the box, manual, and console, the tangible record that I love

Yeah I'm lucky enough to have them all on shelves in my living room. I used to rent CBFD so many times we could have bought it, and probably should have!

That's true, I actually used to have a "display" (a giant stack of boxes of everything a Pink DS Lite box to DK Bongos and House of the Dead 2 Lightgun bundle) but we took it down because it was too tall . But yeah the shelves actually look nicer, I'll try to remember.

Only a about 100 games but apart from some naff PS1 games I don't have any crap out. Generally I own very few "bad" games at all.

I used to display 1 controller from each console too but that looked too cluttered. So they're in a drawer now. Except the N64 controllers, those things are ridiculous to fit in tight spaces.

I'm exactly the same. It's definitely "quality" not "quantity".

I guess it started when I bought games as a kid with my pocket money - It took me so long to save for games, and they were so expensive, that I had to make sure they were good, and I religiously studied the reviews in magazines before deciding which one to buy.

Yeah, I used to do that, too! I would read reviews in Zzap!64, Commodore User and C+VG before paying out for a game .

Nowdays, where there are tens (if not hundreds) of reviews for every new game, I give far less weight to them. I like to read them to gain an overall flavour, but I prefer to buy games that I think I will like rather than what other people like. As an example, I haven't bought Uncharted 4 or Horizon Zero Dawn ("best games ever!" etc) because I know that the gameplay won't be my cup of tea; I went for the "mediocre" Sniper Elite and the "boring" Berserk instead. And I'm really enjoying both of them!

Even from a retro perspective, I have picked up some games that reviewed very averagely at the time but which I have had a lot of fun with. Two of my favourite N64 games are Robotron 64 and Road Rash 64 - both got middling reviews at release and were very unfashionable even then, but today they still play really well. Always go with your own likes and dislikes rather than what other people think .

Very strange issue with my SNES, if I plug its power adapter into any sockets in the corner of my lounge (where my tv, PS4, Nintendo Mini and soundbar are all plugged in) it won't power on at all. Dead, zip, bupkiss.

But when I try the SNES plugged into literally ANY other socket in my house, it works fine. It doesn't even like being plugged into a multi-plug adapter that's plugged into a wall socket in that corner

Are SNESes more sensitive to electronic interference? Have I just got too much stuff plugged in and situated in one area?

Or is that corner haunted?

Look at how many amps the SNES draws. Yes if you have too many things on at once, it's possible it won't get enough power from that circuit in the house. For example the limit on a single outlet is 13A. That or the power supply is blinky.

Sometimes turning power supplies on and off too quickly or pulling out the plug can strawberry float with capacitors. Try waiting a while for them to discharge. Especially if it's old.

Batman on the NES is must be one of my favourite 8-bit games.

Incredible graphics, memorable soundtrack, and AAA playability.

I've been playing it through this weekend. It's rock hard, but I managed to beat the last level and get to the final boss (well almost, just before the Joker). It really is impossible to beat this last double-boss combo, but it's an incredible journey getting there.

This surely must be the best movie-game of all time...by a long way.

Sunsoft also made a Superman game on NES but they must have lost the licence as it became Sunman but was later cancelled all together. You can get a ROM of the game online and as far as I'm aware it's actually the full, finished game. I've played a little of it before and it seemed decent enough.
