Mario Party stories are the best stories

I think it's very difficult to beat Mario Party for local multiplayer. It never gets boring or old, each time you play something different happens. For many years my friends and I have met up every few months and we generally play one or sometimes two boards of MP2 and I just don’t ever see us getting bored of it. We just reached 35 games played.

I hadn't realised it had Phantasy Star 4 on so started playing that earlier, with the aim to spend a bit longer than an hour or two on it (which unfortunately seems to be the norm when I'm playing something retro...sorry).

I know next to nothing about the series, good one to start with?

Phantast Star IV is probably the best one IMO, it's aged surprisingly well and the storyline is quite enjoyable with a couple of memorable moments.

Thanks Ironhide, I've put a few hours into it now and can see that. I do need to sit with a list of the spells beside me though, some of the abbreviations are pretty cryptic!

So I'm looking for some advice.

I've bought a boxed pink ps2 slim as a present for my wife. She had one years a go when they first came out but an ex she was with sold it behind her back for weed money. She spoke about it so fondly and I can tell she still hated the fact it was taken from her against her will and loved it when she did have it.

Anyway this is a surprise so I can't straight up ask her. But I'm wondering what games you guys suggest I should pick up for her? I know the system has so many good games so would like a broad range of ideas for what to buy.

That's a tough one considering the breadth of games on the PS2, what genres does she like?

Here comes the pain is the best PS2 wrestling game, burnout 3 is fab, there's those need for speed underground games too. PS1 spyro will be compatible. Ratchet and clank/Jak might be a good choice too?

Doom that is simply awesome , just wanted to tell you that what you have done is so blooming awesome, I really really hope she appreciates it.
Does she like singing? Might sound a bit sexist here but lots of women I have known have really really loved the SingStar Games.

If she likes party games and racing games perhaps Mashed is one to go for? It's a great multiplayer game.

+1 for Burnout 3 as that's a classic.

Buzz was a great wee series of quiz games. They were always good fun when Singstar wasn't being used at a party.

I don't know anything about platformers, but definitely Burnout 3 and NFS Underground 2, you could throw in their predecessors Burnout 2 and the first NFS Underground as well for extra kudos. There are a load more but they tend to be either garbage (Juiced 1), really idiosyncratic and japanese (Tokyo Xtreme Racer) or a bit more serious (Gran Turismo 3).

Yea got them on the list now too thanks!

I actually enjoyed Juiced 1! Never tried Juiced 2 so not sure if it's worth picking that up.

Yeah I had the PS2 version "back in the day" and then on 360 as well. Great game.

Got it from the CEX nearest my work. It always seems to have one or two OG Xbox gems when I go in.

I had no idea Shadowman came out on the PS1. That's pretty impressive.
